Hope this doesnt seem Sexist that I am bringing this question to you ladies but,

I lotion up my face (dead skin mask) after I get out of the shower each day, I shower twice a day. I apply alot it seems, using the Clinique mens line, And 5-10mins later, it feels really tight and dry again. I wash my face, no cloth, in the shower each time because I have just shaved.

Any opinions would be much appreciated.

Heh,
I lotion my face, but its still dry. Its lookin more wrinkled every day. What am I doin wrong or what other lotion should I try to rejuvenate my face?

I think he's asking what he can do to get that "just lotioned" feeling to last longer.

Hansel, if you get the same results everytime you use the same product, have you considered trying something different? I get the same results from Clinique's "Dramatically Different" lotion, which is the same thing in men's only packaged differently. Perhaps something thicker like a cream, but still oil free. I dunno...

Have you tried Clinique's "Turnaround Cream" instead?

Is this a new thing, or has your skin been dry for awhile? Most people need to step their moisturizing routine up a notch during the winter - cold temperatures and dry winter air are moisture thieves. Are you getting enough EFA's and vitamin E?

I think Im pretty good on efa's, I only take a 400iu E daily plus whatevers in my multi. This dryness of my face is pretty much all the time, its so dry in AZ all the time, so this problem is year round.

Humidifier in the bedroom at night? Little bacteria factories they are...have to keep that anti-bacterial water conditioner in there.

You say you're using a dead skin mask. This doesn't sound like a moisturizer to me. Seems you should be applying a moisturizer after you remove the dead skin. Additionally, I'd think applying that mask daily would dry out your skin.

Try not putting soap/cleanser on your face every day. I have eczema and breakouts and I am very limited in the products I can use on my skin. I only use Dove on my face every other day at the MOST.

I have the same problem with dryness esp in winter. Try not to wash your face in the shower unless you turn the hot water way down. Hot water will just dry you out even more. Put your moisturizer on as soon as you get out of the shower and like the others said, don't use a mask everyday. Get an inexpensive moisturizer that is not too greasy. Try oil of olay total effects. It is fragrance free and has an spf 15 if you care. It may be for chicks, but it's just cream. It doesn't make you grow ovaries or anything. Or burts bees they have a great line of moisturizers. make sure you smell them first or you'll be smelling like a baby.
Clinique and the dept store stuff is way expensive and not worth it. try the drugstore or walmart.

You can use oil of olay total effects both in the morning and at night right after you get out of the shower. It's not greasy, just moisturizing. I use it on my hands too. Masks should really only be used once or twice a week.

Two tablespoons a day of flaxseed oil might help. Be sure to use sunscreen whan outside, sun damage is the real skin killer.

Don't use harsh cleansers or body soap on your face. Masks usually aren't for every day, maybe 1x week. Check the ingredients of any other stuff you put on your face. Things like after-shave can contain alcohol, which'll dry you right up.

Put lotion on when your skin is still moist from the shower, and do it EVERY time you wash or wet your face. Since you're male and don't wear makeup, you can put some lotion on periodically throughout the day.

Cetaphil cleanser is very mild. Also the absolute best moisturizer I've used is Cetaphil creme (used it when I was on Accutane, which really dries skin out). There is also Cetaphil lotion, which is not as heavy. All these can be found in most drugstores and aren't expensive. If you have chapped lips, Aquaphor is a miracle.

I'm going to suggest the two tablespoons a day of either flax oil or better yet Udo's Oil as well. I would also think that a mask would tend to dry the skin out. I use Oil of Olay's moisturizer(Total Effects I think it is) in the morning, it's not greasy and i use the night cream(Total Effects) in the evening to add extra moisture while i sleep. :D

Which Clinique lotion are you using? There are a couple of them in the men's line - one's a "texturizing" lotion and the other is the equivalent to the dramatically different lotion. The dramatically different lotion is a more moisturizing lotion - it gets too greasy for me actually. I had to quit using it and switch to the texturizing lotion (green bottle in the women's line).

My skin hasn't gotten dry this winter though - even with the harsh conditions in the North East. I'm pretty sure I can thank my higher fat diet for that.

ditto

btw- best lotion (at least body and suitable for face use) at least for those with moderate to dry skin (or living in dry climates.. like CA :p)

Hawaiian Tropic
cucumber melon
aloe vera treatment

mixed with aloe vera gel (banana boat is quite good)..

alone is fine but the aloe vera gel is additive

Great, Thank you for all the help ladies, sincerely.

I dont know why everything I wrote last night just came out weird, sorry.

I refer to my face itself as a "Dead Skin Mask" I dont use anything harsh.

And yes, it is a strange title to the thread, but it seems to have grabbed attention which was the Plan Macro.

Yes, C3, Lazarus's "Goodbye Horses" Rules!! I do like the song, however I dont dont tuck it and dance around to it.

I did notice the first two ingrediants in the Mens Clinique lotion (behind water) are Mineral oil and sesame oil....maybe I should try something without oil that I can apply even more liberally??

My hubby uses a product called " Pevonia". You can find it on line or in salons.

Purchase the Pre-shaving emulsion and After Shave CREME w/liposomes- for DRY and sensitive skin types.

Hubbies skin was terrible until he found Pevonia. He tried everything under the sun, including my Clinique Moisture Surge lotion which I love!

Give it a try..I'm certain if it helped my hubby it'll help you.

I sound like a commerical..lol

Whoa Nice! I apologize for leaving ya hanging.

I grew up on Lake Michigan, and learned the ropes at an early age. God I miss it. I was like a mini shirtless Geraldo Rivera out on the lake every summer. Are you in US or CA?

Unforunately, I am land locked out west at the moment but am saving for a new vessile. I am thinking of taking a year on hiatus and take a long voyage from the carribean to the S. pacific.

Curel lotion works wonders.

Thats all I use on the rest of my body, I really lke curel w/ q10 the best. I am thinking of trying that out on my face. Thanks.

Oh, and thanks Vixenbabe, Ill look for Pevonia, but, is the pre shave ok for using with an elec razor?

Hansel...Yes...Hubby uses an electric shaver with this product! No problem!

Regarding sailing/where I live:

YOU ARE LAND LOCKED NOW- POOR GUY!

I live near Toledo , Ohio. I've sailed Lake MI.,Lake Ontario and Huron. Two years ago I did a cruise for two 1/2 weeks along the Great Lakes.

Superior is next on my agenda!

I prefer salt water sailing the most! East Coast girl orginally and my family still lives in Mass., Ct. Maine,Vt. They all are sailor's so it's in my blood.

I use Neutrogena's Healthy Skin lotion with alpha-hydroxy acid in it. I absolutely love it. It smells good, too.

I couldn't use Clinique's dramatically different because it made my skin too oily. I honestly don't like Curel on my face, but that's just me.
