I have tight IT band and that puts a lots of stress on my patellar tendon

Would doing adductors exercises help stretch the IT band (just like working the bis is good to stretch the tris) ?

no, the IT band is connective tissue. Foam rolling your IT bands would help greatly also stretching or foam rolling the TFL (Tensor Fascia Latae) and glutes would help too. a word of warning: foam rolling the IT bands hurts like all hell! but the payoff is good. I had a client that had runner's knee pretty bad, and we foam rolled for a couple weeks consistently, once or 2x a week. it was gone shortly thereafter. consistent foam rolling, being aggressive at the start, would probably bring you back to normal pretty quickly.

Bignate is right, it hurts and sometimes can be relatively time consuming depending on how tight you are.

anywhere I can find more info on foam rolling? I've had some problems w/ my IT band and had some setbacks w/ sports training b/c of it. This sounds like its right up my alley.

Great info here
