Is this a new thing?

My mom just had surgery yesterday. When I saw her my family told me that she had been having bad pain for a couple of hours. Instead of putting a morphine drip they are giving her a shot. My grandma said she had to keep telling the nurse that she was in pain for about 20 minutes until the gave her a shot. I don't know what they are giving her, but when she was sleeping she wouldn't stop twitching, and her face is swollen. WTF! Can anyone tell me if they did away with the morphine drip thing.

I don't know about what you're talking about, but when I had my shoulder surgery they attached a pain catheter to my shoulder that supplied me with pain medicine directly to my shoulder area. I had to keep that thing in for 3 days, but it did help.

Maybe it depends on the procedure that they do?

Thats what they would normally do to her. She's had surgery a couple of times and that is what they always did. She just had a histerctomy(sp*) The doctor said that she would be in pain for a hour or two. I got there 6-7 hours later and she was still in bad pain. The problem I have with it is, the fucking nurses take their sweet ass time to give her the shot. Nobody should have to wait like that.

I hate to tell you but that is just the way it is in the hospital. It seems the nurses don't really care about whether or not you are in pain. Very few nurses are sympathetic to patient's needs these days. Sorry she is hurting that bad. hopefully it will ease soon.

My wife is having surgery in the morning. I dread dealing with the waiting that takes place before surgery. It seems that they will get to you when they want to. Our time means nothing to them!

I hope your mom gets well soon.

I wouldnt expect too much promptness or specific attention from a hospital. For my surgery I was in basically an assembly line of patients ready for surgery, they prep you fast then roll you out one at a time to get cut on, then afterwards when you are half dead from the drugs they are still doing everything fast and dont give a shit really. There is one nurse who is assigned to you the whole time but other specialists and assistants are dealing with you, if you have a good nurse who is assigned to you that is basically the key.

Used to work in hospitals and get used to everyone taking there sweet ass time. No matter where you go be it the ER or the filing room people working there tend to develope an indiffernce to other people's pain/ailments. While it doesn't seem right if you wanna stay in the hospital field you have to develop certain defense mechanisms to some of the horrible things you can and will see in a hospital. I couldn't do it that is why I no longer work in them.

Thanks. I hope that everything goes ok for your wife.

I would understand if the nurses are busy, but when I tell them that she needs a shot and they say ok. Then five minutes goes by and I see them on their ass reading a fucking magazine, that shit pisses me off. My wife had to calm me down because I was about to fuck'n lose it. I'm going to see her again when I get off of work. Those nurses better get off their ass, because even if I can't make a difference I will raise hell.

I can be your gimp-assassin for hire, I got a whole lot of time right now and I only need one shot with a sniper rifle. They would never suspect my crippled ass, oh, I could take care of them on my follow up visit in a few days. You know, kill two birds with one stone, so to speak.

Hows it going man? How long are you going to be out for? How the fuck are you going to make rent?

I will be back Dec. 2nd. Rent=financial aid that we talked about. I pretty much have to sit on my ass all day, if I get up and move around a lot is hurts, and of course I have to keep it in a sling. It even hurts playing fucking ps2 after a while. Thats a huge problem I wasnt counting on. Ive got three puncture holes, front side and back of shouder with stitches and bad bruising and discoloration on my lower shoulder and upper arm, its quite artistic actually. Hard to go to sleep since I have to stay in one position all night. Other than that life is just fucking great cap!
