Is this a car for me?

MrMuscle

New member
I like it, it has a good price.
But it is a 72 modell, doesnt say how much milage, probably alot. 400 hp. Now i dont know shit about cars, engines or nothing. So im guessing its not such a smart buy huh?

The thing is it doesnt cost much at all, under 10K of your dollars. But what im worried about is if they need alot of maintanence. Stuff i dont know anything about.

All are very sweet rides- I like the 80 trans, w/ t-tops, or the 68 firebird but if you don't know jack about cars, buying a car like this will end up a nightmare.... Basically you will end up with someone else's problems they could not afford to fix (cracked head, suspect trans, etc) Within the 6-12mo I guarantee you will be blowing away some rice-burner off the line, something will go, and you will be stuck with a huge repair bill (or sell it for way less than you bought if for) for some crap that was already wrong with it when you got it.

Just say no to buying someone else's failed project....

The 68 is by FAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAR the best.

Damn. I LOVE that 68 Firebird. Fuck.

MrMuscle, make sure the car (if you choose a classic) didn't have several owners. That is a potential problem. Make sure all receipts were kept. Do serious research on the vehicle.

If the previous owner kept immaculate care of it, all you will have to do is the same, and you should be fine.

From Zero owns the firebird and wants to unload it on ya.... j/k

Ok i agree with what you are saying. it will become tough to keep it running. And it will drink gasoline like casavant drinks man juice. So what about this one? Mitsubishi Eclipse 2.4

Mr Muscle... don't bother with the Eclipse... take a looka t the Acura RSX. There is much more room in the RSX than the ecplise, same price tag too. Engines are close to each other too.

heh, if you live in Norway should you not be worried about fuel economy? Those classic cars are gas guzzlers even by the US standards. They fuel bill will put you in the poor house. Not worth it.

One car has 400hp but will still be slow. Those old card were just too heavy. Go for the eclipse 2.0 Turbo. I sat in them before and am 6'3. Front fit was not a problem.

depends on what you are looking for...seems like you are into speed by picking out some of those muslce cars...i would go for the 80 TTA (turbo trans am)...that is the only year they made a turboed trans am and is a very rare car

as for the eclipse, eh depends on which one you want...you are looking for turbo so your options are the:

GS turbo, which is the gs body kit, rims, and colors with the turbo on

GS-T which is the upgraded body kit (usually 2 tone with a grey underbody kit), better rims, different muffler than the GS

and last and the best for the eclipses is the GSX...this is the same as the GS-T as body and rims but with AWD (all wheel drive)...this is the fastest out of the eclipses (14.8 1/4 mile stock) which isnt all that bad

i personally would look into the Acura RSX but since you are not in the US it should be called a Honda RSX where you live and if that is the case get the Honda RSX Type-R

as for muslce cars go...i have 2 1969 Ford Mustang Mach 1 and i am in love with them...i would say look into getting them if you can find one over the Ponts

The 2002 Camaro and Trans Ams secretly had the LS6 engine modifications from the Corvette Z06. I'm not joking. The upgrade is easily done to LS1 engines, but the '02 came that way out of the factory.

Bone stock my car put 324 HP to the wheels but was only rated at 310HP.

I sure do miss it.

umm first off f-bodies suck, there is no such thing as a 2.4 eclipse.
id go with the gsx, good gas mileage and an awesome car i own one and it is like 480 whp, no fbody has ever beat me...
so many upgrades, parts are cheap, its the way to go man.

my friend took a Z06 intake manifold and threw it ontop of his SS...that thing is a freak

Just buy Subaru Impreza. That 4wd will be handy during the winter and you wouldn't be the slowest one on the roads either. Besides, Petter Sohlberg drives one

there are tons of cars out there you have to pick what you are looking for

Looks
Speed
Import (Honda, Toyota, Nissan)
Domestic (Ford, Chevy, Pontiac)
Price
Good on gas
Handling

There are other things but you said you arent to car inclined so i wont go into the details...If you want to wait out get the 2004 Mustang...those cars are sweet as hell...prices range from 17k-26k for the standard or gt versions...but the new cars that are out that i would look into are the Infinity G35 Coupe (Nissan Skyline not sure if you have Infinity where you live) or the Nissan 350Z...look into it and try to narrow down what you are looking for in a car

BTW, just to show how much you dont fucking know, there are only three engines on the old eclipse's/talons/lasers
the
420a which is a 2.0 litre DOHC
the 4g63 which is a turbo charged 2.0 litre DOHC
and i forgot the engine code, a 1.8 litre engine single overhead cam
so whatever msn says, maybe in europe, but id like you to find me a real life car that is in an older eclipse that has a 2.4 litre engine that isnt a stroker motor, stfu.
ive owned 3 dsm's and not one has ever had a 2.4. they sure dont offer that motor in japan or in the states.

but now wait before you say "wait teh jared you are a moron STFU you are look stupid"

you are thinking of the 3g's eclipse's and after 95, which in the DSM world 3g's arent even classified as eclipses. also seeing as how we were talking about turbo models, and 1g and 2g models, no 1g or 2g prior 95 has ever had a 2.4, except the stroker race motor..
haha i dont kno about cars, i can dissasemble the 4g63 in my sleep. seeing as how i built my entire engine and drivetrain and car. i probably forget more about cars then you know.

also whats his name is right about the ls1 and ls6 engines. the ls1 ram air version of the ws6 can be made to 335 as in the ls6 non-zo6 version with a few simple bolt on mods, you can z06 quality 405 hp easily with perhaps a new cam. those cars are beautiful. And incredibly fast, my friend got a new ws6 the other day for 12g.

And by the way, to show how much you don't know about cars the Eclipse has been using a 2.4 liter I4 since 1996

the 2.4 lit was used in the spiders bro.

but its a DSM haha jk...they arent that bad of a car...not my taste but not a bad car...for my daily driver i have a 92 Honda Prelude with a JDM H22 (2.2 vtec) with every bolton...not that slow but not my race car...in the garage is a different story...69 Mach 1 with a 427 big block bored .30 over, rough cam, roller rockers, custom intake, 750cc double pumper carb, 13.1 compression, new pistons, rods, crank, bearings and everything else...it should be putting over 600+ ponies to the tires taking in for the auto tranny taking 15% away from crank HP...i might want to run a nitrous setup but the compression is so high i am not sure how much to shot and keep the motor as "realiable" as a race motor car be :fro:

i gotta say i really like that eclipse, it has a 2,0l engine, 300 hp, 2 owners, driven 130 000 km, 1997 modell. It definately on the top of my list for now.

Cannot find any Nissan 350Z, used anyway. And there are almost no skylines in Norway.

umm old = prior 95 (that is when they made the "spyder" a 2.4 which is so fucking rare....and we were talking about turbo models. no turbo has ever been a 2.4 is my point.

i cannot find this infinity you speak off.

the car will cost around 20K not too bad. But insurance is gonna be a bitch on such a "fast" car.

:blow: god that car is sexy as hell...i dont think he has Infinity there...if he doesnt it will be called Nissan Skyline GT350 or something like that...about the eclipse...its ok but here in the states it is looked at more as a girls car...for 20k i would look into some non US cars that are crazy over seas

Toyota Altezza = Lexus IS300
Nissan Siliva = Nissan 240sx turboed
Nissan Skyline
Honda RSX Type-R
Honda Prelude Type-S

there are more but i have to eat and can only think of them for now...my vote for a new car is the G35/Skyline but if not look into the eclipse more and make sure that it is stock...never buy someone elses project car
