AMSTERDAM — A 16-year-old Dutch teenager set his girlfriend on fire twice last week because he thought she had kissed another boy while on holiday, it was claimed Tuesday.

The victim, 16, was brought to hospital the following day with first and second-degree burns. She is still in hospital but is said to be in a stable condition.

The suspect, from Leeuwarden in the north of the Netherlands, has been charged with attempting to kill her.

The public prosecutor's office (OM) claims the teen asked his girlfriend to come to his home last week and he made her sit next to a computer. He had written the text "jij bent er geweest", or you are a goner, on the screen.

He tied her to the chair and carved his name into her chest with a knife before dosing her in turpentine and setting her alight twice, the OM claimed. Afterwards the youth put her under the shower and brought her to one of his ex-girlfriends. She brought the victim to the hospital the next day,

The suspect is being psychiatrically assessed and a court will decide later whether he should be dealt with under juvenile or adult law.

Yeah, I'm not very good.. I'm better at understanding it when spoken than actually speaking myself.

Actually, the setting on fire murder is getting popular in the Netherlands for immigrants these days.
A girl first strangled and then set on fire by Yugo's
then a turkish family's house set on fire by other immigrants and 2 kids died, parents severely burnt.

Without an agenda I'm going to rationally conclude that unless the press is on some kind of conspiracy, the vast majority of youth hate crimes in holland are committed by immigrants from muslim countries, whereas they are a minority amongst our youth.

It is actually a very common occurance in countries like Bangladesh for jilted men to attack girls they have been rejected by, or that they believe are cheating on them in a bf/gf relationship.

The usual method of attack is pouring battery acid onto their face while they are asleep, but setting them on fire is quite common as well. Bride burning is still a frequent occurance in India, after the honeymoon is over.
