the thing with sharing any personal info at all is that there are certain members who will prey on that info and look for ways to use it against you. not sure why those people get a rise out of making personal attacks, but indeed they do.

Exactly. If you look closely you'll also notice that those most guilty of posting a ton of personal stuff and then complaining when someone makes fun of it are of the far left mindset.

well see, IMO, there is a fine line between joking with someone and making personal attacks. some know not to cross the line, others dont care. all of us can tolerate a certain amoubt of joking but when personal details are used against you in a flaming manner, thats just inexcusable. but its a double edge sword. if you share anything, just know that it likely can and will be used against you by a less than stellar human being.

If you share personal information or you post a thought that contradicts a point you are attempting to make in a discourse, it should be fair to bring that point up to prove hypocrisy. It can't be called a personal attack in that case.

That's the key phrase here. Just like you wouldn't wave your new baby around for example in south central LA, you shouldn't be flaunting it publicly on the interwebs for everyone to see. It's crazy to think the internet is a safe zone just because it can't hurt people physically. Anyone and everyone with access to a computer and internet has access to public forums. Furthermore there are still more private places that can be used on an invitational basis for sharing personal things. Bada bing, bada bang.

Well, that's where BRR's thread about clamping down on stuff comes in. It's a great idea, but it's still impossible to ban all the bad interwebs people's IP's from a public forum. They can swoop and and swipe whatever info they want like a thief in the night. User discretion is still at the forefront of the issue.

I don't think bino is talking about social security numbers here. I think he is pouting about my not tolerating his comments about my family yesterday. No stranger would have any interest in stealing my kid's first birthday photos...lol.
