its enough to make me sick
what makes me sick is that people tout stem cell research as the end all be all... it does have some potential, but there are many other promising technologies which don't get preferential treatment and other areas/diseases that also need to be adressed (how many people does alzheimers affect again? how many people are freshly paralyzed? - okay - now how many have HIV?)...

also many researchers just plain suck and don't get good results but they still get funding for ideas... which is bullshit.

people get all enthused/excited about the most ridiculous shit research...

like the "vitamins cause cancer" that is circling around again

this is a small issue that has very little importance IMO and stem cell research isn't going to have much effect on daily lives as people would like to believe.

so the difference between a sucky researcher and a good one are their immediate results?

I forgot all research works the first time. :)

Plus, if we don't know it's going to work or there's the slightest chance it won't, let's ban it.

Not what I was saying - a lot of them fail to produce after YEARS anything that is worthwhile....

And a lot use models that are invalid for the diseases/conditions they are trying to model...

They need to be more stringent in terms of the funding they give out...

Just cause the rest of you like to throw away good money after bad for the sake of "researchers freedom" doesn't mean it is right.

Being more stringent does not include banning the research due to your personal religious beliefs does it?
