It's worth it in my opinion. If you want to search for information a lot, the search function alone may make it worthwhile for you. Also, knowing that you're supporting the web site you use so often is always good.

i don't think you can change that yourself, but you can change your user title under the name.

as for the name itself, i'm fairly positive that they'll change it to whatever you want when you go plat.

but the question of whether or not it's worth it is up to you. i personally don't have all that much use for it, but if it's available, i do enjoy some of the minor benefits here and there (like galleries, search, and seeing posted images properly). i gave in the past primarily to contribute something, and not for the membership itself.
