Is It True Ritalin gets you wired?

I heard that college students are snorting this stuff that they got from their younger siblings to get an amphetamine-like buzz to stay up all night to "study" or whatever.
I have been out of the drug scene for quite some time and this is the first time I have heard of it.
Anyone know if it is true or not?
No I don't want to try it, just curious. I am naturally too-wired anyway, all I need is something to give me more of a boost, hell coffee gives me the shakes.
Also, why would it mellow kids out but wire adults? Anyone know?
I thought of this because I saw some ritalin in a bottle at a friend's house who is considerably older than I am and had no idea what she would be taking it for.
Someone clue me in please.

ritalin aka methylphenidate will in fact get normal non-ADHD people really wired. from what i remember it's an amphetamine derivative, but i could be wrong.

for those with ADHD, it really flattens them out but the mechanism isn't really certain.

Yes it's chemically related to amphetamines, it will get anyone, child or adult, ADD or not, wired. The reason it "works" in kids and people with ADD is basically this: People with ADD or ADHD, their minds are unfocused, they flit back and forth from thought to thought without being able to focus on anything for long. Give them a stimulant like methylphenidate or l or d-amphetamine(dexedrine/adderall), and their mind is stimulated so it can focus longer on a single task. Since they can focus mentally better, they then don't tend to be so physically restless. However, their bodies are still stimulated just the same, kids taking ritalin have the usual problems losing appetite and having a hard time falling asleep. Crush ritalin and snort it, and yeah it works faster and harder, it's a fun-ass drug but it's addictive if you have that kind of personality.

In all honesty, I have long believed ADHD is a BS "disease. I am sure I would have been diagnosed with it as a kid.
I was always restless and hyper in school, but did well on tests and in class.
I just think there should be different approaches to teaching kids to stimulate them instead of medicate. But hell the pharma companies would lose money that way.
BTW anyone know of any good pharmaceutical companies for a good investment with some new "miracle drug" coming out?

i agree with you for the most part but for some kids, they are genuinely ridiculously hyperactive and inattentive but back in the 90s, the US government would give financial assistance to schools that had a lot of ADHD kids. so what happened was that the prevalence of ADHD increased dramatically. if you look at the prescription rates for ritalin and other ADHD drugs, they've pretty much plateaued. so what did the drug companies do? they came up with adult-ADHD to create a bigger market. again, there may be some with genuine deficits in attention and excessive hyperactivity, but i feel that this is one "disease" that has a humungous financial interest.

ps - from what i've heard, there are 6 million kids in the US with ADHD. that's a ridiculous amount.

Absolutely ridiculous amount. Teachers need better pay and we need to come up with different methods of teaching to deal with different types of kids.

I agree with the insane number of "ADD" kids these days. IMO, if a kid's old enough to talk back, he's old enough to get punched in the throat or the stomach.

LOL, I guess there is something to be said still about the threat of a good ass-beating. Pussified nation we have become, is only goiong to bite our asses in the future and make more people hate us.

Someone on here had a quote that said something like...
"Be sure to smack your kids once a day, even if you don't know why, they will."
