Is it really necessary to do this?

nope! My largest meal i when i get up and starts tapering back towards the end of the day.

Not really....

I still take a clean 40MG Whey Protein shake before bedtime.

There was a study out that said taking in protein on an empty stomach before bed was said to help promote GH release.

Don't have it on hand, though.

I don't think it would be absolutely necessary, but in return I honestly don't think it could do any harm. You probably would be better off consuming some type of longer acting protein before bed, and when you take your 3AM piss, down another few scoops of protein. Not very realistic, but most likely optimal for growth and repair.

That WOULD be ideal...But for me everytime I drink protein shakes in the middle of the night and go right back to sleep I get stomach aches (it never fails :()

Man, in all honesty I've never even tried although I know I should. I bet it could get to your stomach though. I'm lucky enough just to stumble into the bathroom and get the piss to land in the toilet, yet alone make or drink a damn shake. My luck I'd be too damn awake to fall back asleep which would totally suck ass.

Sup bro ,

well , Actually it is not even recomended . The best option before going to sleep is to ingest some SLOW digesting protein , cottage cheese , chicken breast etc......

I also take a protein shake because it is easier , but I take it with flax seed oil which will slow the absorption .

That happens with me as well...Sometimes its a stomach ache AND not being able to fall back to sleep (hence I gave up the middle of the night protein shakes)

With my metabolism though I can get up in the middle of the night (EVERY night) and eat half a large pizza and not gain fat :D

Ok back on subject here. You guys confused me a bit. I asked if it was necessary to take a protein shake before going to bed. All of you said no...BUT I do eat a no carb meal before going to bed. I do take a shake before going to bed blah blah blah. WTF? Which one is it? LMFAO :-) You guys say no...but then say yes. My 6th meal of the day comes in at 7pm. I"m not in bed until 10:30pm. So I take a protein shake that consists of Micellar Casein protein, Flax, Bovine, and Glutamine peptides before going to bed. No carbs! Just protein. Just thought that maybe since I'm taking gear and gear does prevent catabolism...maybe it would be unnecessary to take a protein shake that says prevents catabolism during sleep. And since I'm cutting right now, though maybe the extra calories going to sleep would be unnecessary. Hit me up!
 
Carth bro , I DO TAKE the protein shake but just because it is EASIER that eating food , just because I take it doesn't mean it is the best option . And like I told you I take it with flax seed oil to slow down the absorption .

Like I said before the BEST option is to eat slow digesting protein .

Yes I know. I take Micellar Casein protein with Bovine and Flax 20-30 minutes before sleeping. But like I said, I just wanted to know if this was necessary to do. Just read what I said above. I feel like I'm about to repeat myself here.
 
Carth, I take almost exactly the same before bed, Micellar Casein, and it works well fro me. No problems with that.
