Is it me or do Americans label dance music as 'Techno'

I've noticed this. Techno is NOT all dance! It is it's own genre and is mainly quite underground. Trance, Hardhouse etc are not Techno and IMO are cheesy shite.

Real Techno is Jeff Mills, Richie Hawtin, Slam, Carl Cox, Adam Beyer etc.

Techno is THE dance music or dance music

It depends on what part of the country you are in.....here in chicago the genre Techno hardly ever comes up!!!

i think in the us techno and trance often get grouped together
dance is more INOJ, venga boys, fatboy slim over hear
but we don't really have a ska category either, i think we include it as 'pop'

The thing is Trance and Techno are nothing like eachother really.

And the USA is home to some of the best Techno in the world. Detroit is the home of Techno.
