i have a very italian last name, and am extremely italian looking, and in terms of job interviews, i feel as if i may be discriminated against just as much as any minority....there are no rules, and no one really thinks of "discriminating against italians" but i do believe it happens--everyone automatically thinks mafia, when that couldnt be further from the truth

THAT is the keyword ladies and gentlemen.

Sometiems I think it helps me and sometimes I think it hurts me. This is the melting pot though. So we all are minorities. Many Italians in Younstown OHio and the mafia is still well known in many places. Just ask anyone from that area. Nobody fucks with them. The are big time union in that town also.

Yeah true, but I dont ever recall meeting a tall italian, they dont stand out in my mind. Theyre small people like asians and mexicans.

they're not THAT small. Like 5'10, i'd say...oh, and always saying, "hey louie! dont forget to make the dough!" back and forth to each other.

another sleepless night again?

Thats a weird sleeping pattern you got there. Still up, just chillin working on some shit...dont plan on sleeping. That'll be two all nighters in a row...not good. Oh well, atleast a get a few naps in during the day.

Tomorrow is gonna be a good day though. After my post workout meals...haha, fun time...

Well I didnt have to go in yesterday and I fell asleep early. The only thing Im doing right now is learning a new procedure in the OR and there isnt one scheduled til tomorrow so Im just learning the protocols of the different clinics that Ill be seeing patients at and prolly be on schedule on Saturdays, last Saturday there was eight patients scheduled but I didnt cover it, prolly take over that day here when I get up to speed. I dont have set hours, just coverage and times when patients are scheduled unless I cover the hospital and when Im on call. Being on call means that you never have a normal sleeping pattern. You sleep when you are tired as much as you can, ya just never know.
Well, Im going to read the Memoirs of Sherlock Holmes right now!!

Positive:

1. Their food is yummy, just as their women (until they hit 35 and start turning into big mamas).
2. Their Country is a nice vacation place

Negative:

1. They live with Mama until they are well into their 40s
2. They can 't drive for their lives.
3. Loud as hell (specially anything south of Rome)

a fucking men. first, I will say that for the most part, the discrimination I have been a part of probably doesn't compare to the history of discrimination against women, african americans and a few others. However, it is socially acceptable to discriminate against Italian Americans and defamation of Italians Americans is a daily occurance. But everyone laughs at it, so it is overlooked. I am a member of the Order Sons of Italy, who, among other things, fight for the anti defamation of Italian Americans in this country. I grew up in one of the most heavily populated cities in America with Italian Americans and never realized all this until my family moved to Ohio for 9 months and was just floored at the discrimination, judgement and overall ignorance of everyone in that community towards Italians. That was really the first time I saw people protest shows like The Sopranos.

But either way, I am better looking than most and have great pants. So there.

discrimination against anything that is different to what people is used to is a norman occurence.

It shows fear, and fear leads to anger...

of course it is, but you cannot deny that prejudice and discrimination against Italian Americans is a nationwide problem in this country. People don't realize this, cause as I said, society in general chooses to focus on only certain discrimination cases (which is actually prejudice behavior in itself...) and laugh at others.

I'm discriminated all the time. Just because I look American and have an American last name, they assume I'm 100% American, when I'm not.

If it is not Italians it's (pick your choice)

1. Blacks
2. Latins
3. Inmigrants in General
4. Homosexuals
5. anything that does not conform to the sterotype of "American" (which is exactly what??? a melting pot, if you ask me)

Since I only go there to visit and do my shopping once a year, I have not had the chance to experience that first-hand, however, in Germany in particular, for very specific reaons the Turks get all the flame.

I used to live in Trinidad and that was a sight: Whites were the minority there, and you had to see the racism between black people and Indian people (nice mess the British made on the little island)

I see that too... After the war the appreciation of Americans is not the best it could be around here
