Is it ever OK to take maltodextrim or dextrose pre work out?

Some times on Saturday mornings I like to work out soon after I wake up. Glycogen levels are low when you first wake and if I eat something, like oatbran or brown rice, to get some glucose\glycogen going, it will be atleast 2 hours before it's digested and available for use as energy. On these days, I will sometimes have some maltodextrim about 30-45 mins pre workout. Do you guys think thats OK?

I also take it sometimes if I feel I need more fuel for the work out (like if I haven't had any carbs in more than 4 hours).

Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.
 
i think they are fine... about 30 minutes before workout so you have the energy to have a good workout and you wont crash and feel weak during the workout.
 
No, not a good idea. Better to ingest a slower burning source, not a fast acting one. It's outta you too quick, you'll get tired, and you also ruin your pwo spike of slin which you want then, not before the workout.

SC is right, you are better off having somehting like oatmeal 30 or 40 min before working out
 
If I eat a slow absorbing carbs (like oatmeal) pre work out, will 30-40 mins. be enough time?

4-5 hours before for actual muscle glycogen.

1 hour or so before to provide glucose in the bloodstream to be burned for energy.

so atleast 1 hour before and I should be good to go for a heavy lifting session
 
sorearms - I hit oatmeal before about 4 minutes and it works great for me... :)
 
Hey bro....I workout at 430am during tax season......start on just an eca stack and then hit my PW shake about 40 minutes into my session.......works decently to maintain, but might not suggest it if trying to put on mass......working 60+ hours per week, I was just trying to make it through alive.......its only 3 months.....
