Is combining painkillers dangerous

Im fucking sick again, its a weird illness my eyes, mouth, nose and throat all sting. its 440am and i cant sleep due to the stinging.

Ibuprofin is worthless, even at 800mg at once.

So that leaves aleve, aspirin & acetaminophen. I also have some tylenol 3s and some 5/500 vicodins.

What are the dangers of combining high doses of painkillers? for example, say i took 4-5 aleves a day (about 1000mg), as well at 6 aspirins, 2 acetaminophens and 1 vicodin a day? My biggest worry is the acetaminophen damaging my liver hence me only taking 1500-2000mg a day/max of it.

Does it matter if you combine high daily doses of aleve & aspirin? Since they aren't toxic the same way acetaminophen is toxic i figure whatever damage they do will be short term and reversible. the damage acetaminophen causes is irreversible.

Plus im a binge drinker (drink about 14oz whiskey in one sitting 3-5x a month) so im worried moreso about damage to my liver from acetaminophen than anything else.

Are you going to see a doctor today? You should... sounds like you have a flare up from allergies...

i should but i probably wont. i thought it might be allergies too.

Are there OTC anti-allergy meds i can take to test to see if its allergies? ANti-histamines come to mind but im sure there are others too.

ok, im going to walmart to buy allergy meds to see if i have allergies.

Combining painkillers? No, Karen Ann, its just fine.

YES COMBINING THOSE DRUGS IS DANGEROUS

the maximum dose of paracetamol (called acetominaphen in america) is 1 gram, 4 times a day. when you start going over that, your liver cannot dispose of it properly and instead produces another metabolite, which is toxic...extremely so.

do not, EVER take more than 1 gram, 4 times a day (spaced as evenly as you can) of acetominaphen. cannot stress this enough- overdose = poison = death a couple days later

ibuprofen is similar to aspirin, and if you take both, theres a nice chance that you will give yourself a headache (opening blood vessels in brain)

what you need to do is get a product with: acetominophen (for the temperature, and pain), codiene phosphate (for the pain...great for pain actually) and an older antihistamine (to put you to sleep, and dry up your nose)

you need sleep in a nice warm room, lots of food, and fluid to replace what you ahve lost.

if pain persists, see doctor, maybe youll need antibiotics (if bacterial)

cheers

i dont come near that 4g a day mark, i am wary of going over 2g a day as that is the max for chronic drinkers (which i dont know if i am or not but prefer to think i am to be safe).

My main concern was whether there was a risk of permanent damage from combining all these drugs. I know that acetaminophen is the only one that converts to a toxic metabolite in the liver, but im not sure if taking large doses of aleve (naproxin sodium) and aspirin would do permanent damage though or help the acetaminophen damage my liver.

On another note, just got back from walmart with some Equate brand claritin. i took one and my eyes dont sting as much. maybe its a fluke, i will have to wait a day or so to see. Irrelevant of whether this cures my situation i still need to see a doctor. if allergy meds dont work i dont know whats wrong, and if they do work then i have allergies but i dont know what im allergic too.

Uh....don't ever mix acetaminophen and alcohol. It can KILL you.

i know all this stuff about alcohol & acetaminophin. I even know the 2 enzyme pathways, toxic metabolite formed, treatment drugs, etc.

For the record, i never mix the 2. I was worried about what would happen if i took large doses of aleve, aspirin, and some acetaminophen.

ive got a drs. appointment tomorrow to talk to a physician about this. if it is allergies hopefully he can help find what is causing them.

the official pharmacy line is that there is no rationale to combine different painkillers (except opiates)

it might work, and it might also give you a headache

i wouldnt do it myself

cheers
