Is being a karma whore still tabboo?

I remember when it was like a big black mark on someones reputation if it was found out they were a K whore. It seems like it's not only more accepted and open these days, but almost encouraged ('cause it brings in the cheddar $$$). Specially with peoples K total and K power out in the open. Back then, our k total or k power where not visible to the public. To find out what you hit for you had to pm some one, tell them you were about to hit them so they could check their before and after points and tell you how much it was worth. What do you guys think?

The big hitters expect me (hitting for, say, 25) to hit them thirty-eight or however many times before they'll hit me once . This just destroys any meaning karma ever had.

I'll hit someone if I like them, if they post a credited response or worthwhile post, or if I want to say something via karma without cluttering the thread or going off-topic. I don't give a damn if they hit me back or not, nor do I care how much they hit for.

I don't even bother hitting the heavy hitters. They're playing a different game. I won't fret "wasting" a hit on some 50-post newbie who says something interesting and being unable to hit some board cluttering looser-fucker just for reciprocation.

There's kinda an interesting economical structure here, but IMO, it got inflated to quickly. From a total profit standpoint of EF, a slower, more controlled release of karma into the system would have generated more profit over time. I can't see how the present karma system can be maintained and generate sales -- it will either collapse or have to undergo a major revamp. Selling 1,000,000,000 karma points for $19.99... how substantive.
