Is Adderall addictive?

It's an amphetamine, yes it can be addictive. You google Adderall Addiction and you get 1,350,000 potential pages.
But in terms of comparing side effects of withdrawal ... can't help you. I'm not even sure you can effectively compare the severity of withdrawal of one class of medications (narcotics/opiates) to another class (amphetamines/stimulants). Some people put something down and it's like ... whatever (everyone knows the smoker who just went "enough of this shit" and walked away from them). Some people skip their morning cup of coffee (a stimulant) and feel like the walking dead and have a crashing headache.
I've known kids who were on Ritalin or Adderall for years, for legitimate ADD/ADHD, and stopped taking it in their late teens and it didn't phase them. A lot of it has to do with how long the half life of the medication is. A lot of the prescription stimulants have short half lives, which means less withdrawal symptoms because it metabolizes out fairly quickly (e.g., regular Ritalin has a half life of about four hours).

Very addictive......I feel sleepy,tired and unable to think clearly without it...I even find that I want to take more to deal with certain situations.....also it's such an appetite suppresent that I feel like I'm starving to death if I don't take it...also you find that you will build up a tolerence fairly quickly and want to take more...

If used as prescribed by a physician, no, it is not addictive per se, but it can have addictive characteristics. By this I mean it can be addictive for some, but unlike benzodiazepams, they will not 'ween' you off the drug if you or your doctor decide to cease treatment or change treatment for whatever reason.
However, to cut all the crap, Adderall is a racemic mixture of amphetamine salts, comprised of 25% dextroamphetamine (of the famous Dexadrine, the first Rx amphetamine that came out in the 1950's and has had it's limelight in the Air Force among other places). It is amphetamine -- it is speed -- HOWEVER, it taken as perscribed, usually 5-40mg a day, and assuming it's needed for treatment of ADHD and not for an 'upper', it should have no negative side effects for one, save for the few that use it for a strong upper or try to binge on the drug (baaaaaaaaad idea...).

I have used Adderall, prescribed by a doc, since '02. However, I use it only during school, taking 3-3.5 months off in the summer and 2-6 weeks off in the winter from the drug and experience no withdrawl or uncomfortableness or anything.

Actually, meth(amphetamine) is different than "real" Ice, which is 4-mar, a different substance than methamphetamine. Often pure meth crystals have a clear, glassy look and are called Ice. The slang terms are intermixable, but there is a difference in the user subset.

Took it for adhd when I was younger. Now I replaced it with weed.
I dont want to think I cant make the grade (grad school) without a crutch such as adderall, so I havent had it in about 6 weeks and dont think Im going to take it ever. If I just have to study longer/harder so be, its my last year in school and I want to say I did it without drugs. Plus after college I dont want to extend the crutch to job performance like a lot of young professionals are doing now.AAP said:
