Is 12 weeks enough contest prep time?

I'm at 5'9" 183 lbs and a portly 17% BF. I'd like to get down to 12% or better for competing. Is 12 weeks enough? The contest I"m looking at is on August 14. I don't really care about winning, I just want to see if I can het into shape and look decent on stage. What do you think, will 12 weeks cover it?

First if you go in at 12% you'll be embarrassed and wish you never got on stage..second if your BF was at 12% already then 12 weeks might be enough time. To do a contest in 12 weeks when you are starting at 17% is insane and you will end up weighing 150lbs and be flat as all hell. I definitely don't reccomend it but if you do you better have a super strict diet/cardio program and a lot of good gear.

even coming in at 6% you would be way too soft for the stage, 12% you would be the laughing stock of the show. On a decent contest diet, you can drop 1% every two weeks, so that gives you an idea of how long you would need. I took 16 weeks to go from 13% to 4

Is that a recent pic in your avatar? If so you don't look 17%, how'd you have it tested or are you just estimating? If it's one of thse resistance things that you hold out in front of you after putting all your info in, it's likely that it is way off. I had one of those done the same day I had a caliper test done, the resistance one read me at 17% and the calipers had me in the high 8's.

The biggest issue with dropping a lot of fat in a short time period is it will be very difficult to hang on to muscle. Personally I would not do it, I'd start dropping now at a slow pace and plan for a later show.

I'm getting 17% in the bod pod. I'm only slightly fatter than the pic in my avatar. I'll post a current pic if I can find a photo hosting site.

Yeah, there is no such thing as 12% on stage.

Except at a pig auction.

I was at the NPC Newenglands a few weeks a go and I could not believe how out of shape some of those guys were. 2 of the heavey weights look liked they dieted at burger king. I am @ 12% right now and I swear I could have put on some pro tan and beat 40% of the guys up there. And then some asshole went on stage with so much pump and pose in his arms I thought he was Greg Valentino, and he is a no talent ass clown.

I know it is sacreligious to talk about pump and pose and BBing at the same time but I saw this kid at my gym and his arms have ballooned up in the last month so i started probing and he came right out and told me he does shots in 3 spots on his tri's and 4 spots on his bi's 2 in each head. he use Synthol. His arms looking amazing. I think if it is done right it is hard to spot the fakes. This guyd doesn't look like Greg V but he also is not proportioned.

so sounds like I wasted my time getting down to 4% for my show, i should have just done an NPC show instead

The NPC show in CNY last june was sick..there was 5 guys in each class that could compete at jr nationals. The only weak divison was super heavy's which next year I will own!!! that is if miracles really do happen.

DOnt take this the wrong way bro, but you got a lot of work to do.....16 weeks min....and thats if you are STRICT

bro, i just did a show and Im telling you that you need at least 1 more year of solid training and "supplementaion" before you should think of steppin on stage. If you step on stage at 12% you'll regret it, and probably get discouraged from ever doing another show.

And my questioon is, why would you even consider wasting your time and money to just do a show for shits and giggles? Why put your body through that stress for nothing? Trust me, do it the right way and you'll thank me later.

Listen to bravo on this one...if you are plat go back and chcek my threads from around this time last year. I went fro 18% in april to about 11% in june and trained everyday with the intention of doing my first show. Got up and looked in the mirror and said "would I vote for me" not a chance. So i went to the show and watched and was glad i did because I might have looked better then 1 guy in my class but the other 10 kicked my ass. This year I was doing better til i messed up my shoulder and instead of killing myself to make up time i chose to wait til next year. Do it right and you'll be much happier.
