iPhone... who is getting one?

I won't get one but I hope it's a success.. I have stock in apple!

what will it have to differentiate it from the Palm, Blackjack and Blackberry series?

Never. But, if I was someone interested in it, I would at least wait until the second version comes out. No logic in buying the first version - let all the other tards figure out the kinks/issues first.

it will be a success because all th iretaurds will run out and pay for a device that can only do about 20% of what other phones(pocketpcs) can do.

I guess the big thing about it is it's new screen. When that catches on everyone will be using them..... How awesome would a palm treo be with a screen like that?

i wont, way over priced. i have the motorola q and although it has its kinks i was able to set it up the way i like it and now its good to go.

I was watching something on T.V. about them a few nights ago. The phone is not even out yet and they have already changed the front cover so it is now scratch resistant. The battery life used to be only 4 hours, like your side kick, blackberry, and trio but the apple has 8 hours.

The only people that are going to be able to afford them are and find good used for it are people that own business or are in corporate world (that's what they say)

but you forget its not being bought for use its being bought because they gotta have it. people will throw there last welfare check to get one. some people just dont have prioroties in life. look at what happened with the Razor phone. it came out, people went nuts because it was thin and it ended up being a crappy phone. now they are giving them away.

Agreed - 6 hundred dollars doesn't price it out of range of the techies that HAVE to have whatever is new.

You have to give Apple credit for fixing problems before it's released. You get the feeling Microsoft would have rushed it out there and then dealt with the MANY issues later.

The big iphone slip-up IMO is them not installing any IM(text messaging) applications into the phone. That whould have gained a large amount of the sidekick users.

I agree.

Are you serious? no texting (or limited texting) ?

That is huge in the cell phone business.

I do more texting that calling.

I`ll wait till they release it, listen to what people are saying they like and dislike and then decide if I will get one. I definately want one, but I`m not sure if I want to pay that much for a phone that offers only AT&T service.

Always avoid the first iteration of a brand new product. The second will be much better. After Apple hears 4 million people say "ya know, this would be perfect if only it did such and such"...such and suches will be in v2.

You can text; you can't do it using yahoo/aim.

"Learning the real cost of an iPhone"

Depending if you go with the eight gigabytes instead of the standard four gigs: $499-$599

Your Bill AT&T: Monthly service is $60 for 450 anytime minutes, $80 for 900 or $100 for 1,350. Don't forget to activate it..add $36

Your Old Phone: Gotta pay off your existing cell carrier to cancel your contract early at $175 per line. Plus, the phone you paid $300 for a year ago will only fetch about $50 on sellyourcell.com, a loss of $250.

Your Old IPod: Won't need this $250 device anymore. If it's in good condition beyondthepod.com will give you $126 for it, a loss of $124.

Finally Your Time: for the time-challenged, line waiters for hire are flooding craigslist. The going rate $200.

TOTAL COST..$1,344-$1,484

You know how many purses with matching wallets I could buy? :)

not that I dislike the idea of a phone/mp3 player combo.........I just wasn't impressed with the quality of the IPOD, so I can't imagine this frail looking little phone is going to stand up very well unless you baby the fuck out of the thing.

The Cult of Steven will buy anything with an Apple logo on it.

Damn if you guys could see my phone you would laugh at me as much as I am chuckling to myself about this thread.

My husband has a brand new fancy-shmancy high tech fone (like his) all ready for me to use and I flat out refuse. I like my outdated, FREE fone... does exactly what it is supposed to do. I can talk on it and text. I have a camera fone and I hate it... but I have to keep two lines.

I think this whole *gotta have it mentality* is dumber than dumb but hey, it drives the economy so who am I to turn my nose up at it?

i dont care what it does, i have seperate things that do the same damn thing that does. i mean you cant do it all at once. unless your in the market for a new phone or upgrade and you can afford it go ahead, but if your locked in a contract already i say pass it by till your ready and also a version 2 is released.
