IP Address Paranoia?

evil_1

New member
Hello All,
I am new to this site and conducting business transactions over the internet. So my question is, isn't everything we do on the internet traceable via our IP addresses? I mean even if we are trying to be extra careful using secure email and so forth everything done over the internet is traceable by our IP addresses. Am I being overly paranoid or do I just not know enough about the ways of the internet?

I was really hoping for more than a one word answer or is this not a topic people like to discuss on here?

what kind of transaction, cars?

Well, yes they can track you. There are logs and everything of most anything. Somewhere, someone knows you are you. If they really need to find out, they will.

Yeah, and if they want to find out with which hand you urinate with, they will.

Most secure mail servers are outside US jurisdiction so authorities can't get a warrant to search the logs. If somebody wants to find you they can if they have the resources to do it. The question you have to ask yourself is "is what you're doing worth someone taking the time and effort to do it?"

Ok, so I am being overly paranoid. Just trying to get good info, can't blame me for trying to be careful. Thanks Dial Tone.

secure email is secure.

Also there are some proxy serves you can use if you are really concerned about your IP address.

you can trace back where mail came from or what sites you are going to. But as far as content, mail transactions can all be securly encrypted.

Thats a good point rudeboyja, not being able to trace content. Thanks, that gives me a little more comfort.
