Invisible Fencing?

Has anyone ever installed one of these before? And do they work well?

Doing a landscaping project in the yard and want to make sure that Ernie, aka "Digs A lot", doesn't destory it.

A guy at work installs it on the side. He swears by it.

I wouldn't worry about your dog messing it up.:)

A couple guys I work with did it for their dogs and said it worked perfect. One guy even did it inside his house so that the dog can't get upstairs.

I'd have a hard time doing it with my dogs just because I'd feel bad the first time they got the shock. Which they will have to do to learn not to go past the boundary.

I was thinking about this myself..... My dogs are destroying my Hoasta Garden.. The run thru it like it's not there... all I see is *puff* cloud of leaves....

Ernie, doesn't go out of his yard...but has added the fine art of digging to his list of new tricks....

I really don't want to have to put up regular fencing around all the new landscaping...trees, bushes, gardens, flowers, etc...and am having a hard time breaking his habit..

Well....it actually depends.

In my dogs case...it didn't work but for a week or so. We have a trained German Shephard who is extremely smart. She had a habit of following our car over to my grandmas house when we drove over there (we live in the boondocks and it's only .3 miles away). She discovered...that if she ran fast enough...she could run through the fence without it shocking her. She then realized that she could do it to get back in, too. So...needless to say...ours only worked for about a week or so.

That dog was too daggum smart for her own good!!! lol.

We have one for my dobe. It works great. When he gets about 2 feet from it the collar gives a warning buzz sound and then if he goes a little closer it gives him a shock. The installer put white flags about every 8 feet or so and I would walk him around the flags. Each week I took out a few flags and with-in a month or so there was no more flags and he now knows where he can go. I taught him ONE word that meant it was ok to cross over so if I want him to go for a walk with me all I do is take the collar off (which after 6 months he no longer needs) and say the word and he will follow me. It takes some time to get to this point (about 2 1/2 months) but well worth it. We were thinking of going with invisable fence but we found a better company named Dog Watch which has a better product. I think the web site is www.dogwatch.com It would have been about $750.00 but he gave us half off because my wife is a DVM Some vets say it's mean but my wife thinks its for the safety of the dog. Its not like we live in a busy area, but we did not want the dog walking around town. Good luck

It works great for kids too. You don't have to keep them in an unsightly playpen. Yeah they cry the first few times they get shocked but hey life is pain sometimes and this helps prepare them for that.

It works very well until the batteries run out and then they run off and tear into the neighbors trash, etc. Anyway, it has worked well for people I know. Just make sure you keep some extra batteries handy.

Do you have any idaa how much those collars hurt??? I wouldnt want to put my dogs through that

While we were teaching him the area he was gonna stay in, we set the collar to a very low setting, it feels just like a tingle, we can hold the terminals and it would not hurt you, kind suprised you more then anything, this was enough for him to know that he was not supposed to be there. he never cried or yelped. The setting is still that way now, and dont forget like I said before, the collar gives a buzz sound about 2 feet away from the buried wire. Once again like I stated before, We would not do anything to hurt our dog and if it did we would have never bought it. This is why we went with Dog Watch rather then the other company. Dog watch you are able to adjust the collar and it has the buzz sound where Invisable fence does not. Now if you want to talk about hurting animals with electric fence, I think they should outlaw the use of electric fences to keep horse's and cattle in an area, Now to us the is nasty stuff.
