Hi, I just joined this site about an hour ago (while watching MMA). I'm fairly new to intense weight-lifting. Intense meaning it's my primary exercise now that I has to quit jitz and Muay Thai. I'm planning on starting Strong's 5x5 Monday as I've researched it and believe it's a good fit for me.

I lost #100 5 years ago and kept it off until I had to quit martial arts 4 months ago. Between then and now I've allowed myself to regain 25# and only recently have pulled myself out of the doldrums and joined a lifting gym. I've lost 7# so far.

I eat low carb, and have for years.

Oh, and I'm 51.

I look forward to getting to know you all!

Hi JynxBJJ & welcome to EF! How long did you train in BJJ & MT? I used to train a few years ago, and must say I miss it!!

Congrats on the weight loss and keeping it off for so long! Did you suffer an injury and that's why you had to quit your MMA training?

You should think about starting a log here. I just started my own, and it's very motivating when you know you have to post up your workout! Plus everyone here has a wealth of knowledge and I'm sure you would receive all the help you need.

Awesome job btw on the weight loss!
I'm currently doing SL 5x5 16 wks in , my logs on here since day 1 i think you'd be impressed with results if you have any questions just ask away.

Thanks! I'm starting it tomorrow, as I had training today and my partner couldn't make it to the gym with me before I had Scouts. I'll check out our log and get one gong.

I had to quit because I have a funky eye thing that needs regular shots, and I can't take impact to the head. Even an incidental blow from jitz could mess up my vision, much less Muay Thai! I miss it desperately. I couldn't even drive past the old gym for a month without tearing up. I was a blue belt in jitz, going for my first stripe, and a "blue sash" in MT (even though MT doesn't really have ranks).

I had fiddled with lifting before, but this is the first time that lifting is my main exercise...and I'm loving it! My weight hasn't changed, but my behind is about 3" further from the floor! :D
