Good morning, ladies. I'm Jen, a 33 year old wife and mother who has allowed herself to get WAY too fat and out of shape. Before I had my son in 2006, I weighed 115 pounds and could eat whatever the hell I wanted. My metabolism was my friend. My daughter just turned 2, and I now weigh 160 pounds. My metabolism has turned on me.
How did this happen? After a very serious run of post-partum depression, I found I gained almost 30 pounds more than I weighed pre-pregnancy. Too much chocolate, too many baked potatoes and too much pizza. The post-partum was so horrible, we've decided not to have any more children.
Now what? I'm low-carbing it and have been hitting my elliptical machine. To no avail. About a week ago, I started reading. Seriously reading. Maybe I don't need cardio as much as I need to train and THEN add some cardio. **I've read all the stickies.**
The problem? I can't get away to a gym where I can pay somebody to train me. I've got two small kids and we'll be moving soon so I need to wait a few months before I get a gym membership.
My hope is I can pick up some tips on things I can do at home to get this party started. I'm willing to buy some weights or equipment. Any advice or constructive criticism would be greatly appreciated. As long as you're not an asshole about it.
Me:
5'3", 160# and about 38%bf. My goal is to get back to 115 or 120 pounds, but I don't want to be skinny fat. I'd like to do this by bikini time in June, but at the rate I'm going, I'm not convinced this is doable.
I get on my elliptical machine for about 40 minutes three times a week, and I do yoga for about 40 minutes three times a week. Yes, I realize this makes me a slacker, but I'm committed to kicking it up.
I've been low-carbing it, eating about 1200 to 1500 calories a day. I track my meals on caloriecount.com and an example of a daily menu looks like this:
Breakfast: coffee with a tablespoon of heavy cream, two eggs and two pieces of bacon
Snack: string cheese
Lunch: salad with oil and vinegar, avocado and chicken breast
Snack: salmon wrap with cream cheese
Dinner: pork chops and broccoli
Snack: prosciutto
So that's me, in a nutshell. I welcome any feedback or advice. And in the meantime, I'll keep reading and researching in my hopes to one day become a total hardbody. xoxo
