Good morning, ladies. I'm Jen, a 33 year old wife and mother who has allowed herself to get WAY too fat and out of shape. Before I had my son in 2006, I weighed 115 pounds and could eat whatever the hell I wanted. My metabolism was my friend. My daughter just turned 2, and I now weigh 160 pounds. My metabolism has turned on me.

How did this happen? After a very serious run of post-partum depression, I found I gained almost 30 pounds more than I weighed pre-pregnancy. Too much chocolate, too many baked potatoes and too much pizza. The post-partum was so horrible, we've decided not to have any more children.

Now what? I'm low-carbing it and have been hitting my elliptical machine. To no avail. About a week ago, I started reading. Seriously reading. Maybe I don't need cardio as much as I need to train and THEN add some cardio. **I've read all the stickies.**

The problem? I can't get away to a gym where I can pay somebody to train me. I've got two small kids and we'll be moving soon so I need to wait a few months before I get a gym membership.

My hope is I can pick up some tips on things I can do at home to get this party started. I'm willing to buy some weights or equipment. Any advice or constructive criticism would be greatly appreciated. As long as you're not an asshole about it.

Me:

5'3", 160# and about 38%bf. My goal is to get back to 115 or 120 pounds, but I don't want to be skinny fat. I'd like to do this by bikini time in June, but at the rate I'm going, I'm not convinced this is doable.

I get on my elliptical machine for about 40 minutes three times a week, and I do yoga for about 40 minutes three times a week. Yes, I realize this makes me a slacker, but I'm committed to kicking it up.

I've been low-carbing it, eating about 1200 to 1500 calories a day. I track my meals on caloriecount.com and an example of a daily menu looks like this:

Breakfast: coffee with a tablespoon of heavy cream, two eggs and two pieces of bacon
Snack: string cheese
Lunch: salad with oil and vinegar, avocado and chicken breast
Snack: salmon wrap with cream cheese
Dinner: pork chops and broccoli
Snack: prosciutto

So that's me, in a nutshell. I welcome any feedback or advice. And in the meantime, I'll keep reading and researching in my hopes to one day become a total hardbody. xoxo

Ever try P90X or Insanity? BeachBody has a lot of good at-home programs, I've done a few and experienced good results with them, and they're awesomely convenient for someone like you...the people instructing in the videos are basically your personal trainer.

As far as calories go, I am not sure what YOUR perfect number is, but do keep in mind that going TOO low can backfire..so be careful with that.

Diet needs work my friend. You need some more complex carbs in your diet, especially with breakfast, that's the most important meal of the day...why don't I see some wheat toast or something like that involved? All you have is the coffee, eggs, and bacon...me personally I'd still be wanting to devour an entire house after that. You have to find what works best for you. Pork chops are the bomb but not the best choice when trying to lose weight. I'd subsitute that with chicken breast or a grilled fresh salmon filet.

I understand you're "low carbing it" but you have to be reasonable. I do well on low-carb diets, everyone does...but I hate them, mainly because i become a BITCH when I don't have carbs lol and I have way too much school going on for me to lose any brain power..

Nutrition is not my area of expertise so I'm not the one to confide in regarding that, but I can guarantee you those who know their stuff in that area will comment on that.

Hi, and welcome
So, hope this doesn't sound assholeish ;)
this is what i see when I look at your diet
- you sure that's all you're eating?
I find that hard to believe if you are stalled at 160/38%bf.
you sure you're not having cheats/binges?
Some people do very well on lowcarb/no grains however some people- about 25% of people actually need to be low fat as well. I would recommend a totally grain free and somewhat low fat diet.
Try something like this:
breakfast- 5 or 6 eggwhite with mixed vegetable omelette and turkey bacon (any vegetables) in a non stick pan- no oil or butter. You could have 1/2 grapefruit as well.
snack:1/2 cup low fat cottage cheese or 2 oz low fat partially skim mozzarella and a piece of fruit like an apple or some berries.
lunch: same as you have but measure your oil so it is only 1 tsp.
snack: salmon with teriyaki or lemon or or other non-fat seasoning in a lettuce wrap- no bread or wheat wraps. Or another source of lean protein and no more than 15 nuts,
Dinner: sounds fine as long as long as it is a lean protein and vegetable with no butter or grease involved.
snack: low fat cottage cheese

While it sounds wonderful to be able to enjoy salty cured meats, creamy cheeses, and bacon- the reality is that it doesn't work for everybody.
I recommend you just start jogging and doing some exercises at home. Try pushups, planks, moutain climbers, air squats, V-sits, etc. Just google those words if you're not sure. Also go on exercise RX and look at the body weight exercises. You can get some dumbells too- get 10s 15s 20s 25s and 30s to start.

Hey Pink good to have you on here and we are glad to have you with us on EF!
Typically this is not something that I suggest to peeps, however at your dangerous BF% and your goal you might study up on every other day fasting.
Also just off the top of my head if your kids are small enough get them in a stroller and walk jog. It sounds like your a stay at home mom. I know there are things you have to do around house during the day but there is also a lot of time that you can be on your feet pushing the weight of them little ones too. You can walk/jog and they will enjoy it too, prolly more then you LOL.
Actually being out on the ground with excersize is much more productive then being on machines believe it or not.
IMO for you right now following jjtt's diet advice, getting outside and moving and doing body weight excersizes is right where its at for you.
Also study up on diet. There is a lot of good info right here on EF about it. Feel free to pm jjtt and pick her brain, she knows it very well.
Keep posting on here cuz the sistas will help you out tons and best of luck to you chika!

Welcome to Elite as someone mentioned P90X would be a good option until you could get a gym membership again. Another option is primal blue print since you are already doing low carbs wouldn't be to hard for you. Mark helped creat P90X program and on his site you can find the workouts he suggest in the begining stages only thing you would really need is something to do pull ups on.

Dang IG!
Good to see you back, missed you!
