Been doing this for about 4 weeks now and I'm loving it and the results.

High recommend anyone who diets and works out to look into it.

This + paleo = fat shredding machine.

Are you pulsing aminos throughout your fast? How many fasts per week?

I've looked into this in the past. I might give it a shot at the first of the year. I need to adjust my macros to a more keto type meal plan first.

Using BCAAs on work out days (when I work out in the morning) before and during my workout. Tuesday/Thursday I box at 6am and M-W-F I work out either first thing in the morning or early in the afternoon.

Honestly, I planned on starting with only 1 fast per week, but the first day was seriously a piece of cake, so I just went in to a 12pm-8pm schedule Monday through Friday right from the start.

Ive lost a touch of strength on my bench but surprisingly have gained a few pounds on my squat and dead. That plus my energy while working out fasted is through the roof.

so, these are intraday fasts, not a full day?

you depend on supplementation, though, right? with all those hours not eating, you need to make up for lost time as far as nutrition is concerned.

Negatory. Aside from the BCAA supps (and I only take those when I work out in the morning) I dont use supps. Its gotten to the point that instead of having a protein shake once a day as I used it, I'll maybe have 2 a week (eg when Im craving one). Since I dont have to worry about eating a meal every 2 hours Im sticking primarily with whole food. Plus...lets be honest...99% of supps are garbage anyway.

My first meal today was 1 lb of pulled pork shoulder and a pound of broccoli with an apple. That was about 2.5 hours after my bench/dead/pullup workout.

There have been a bunch of studies challenging the whole "meal every 2-3 hours" thing. Like a bunch of stuff on this or any other board, a lot of it seems to just be people regurgitating what others say and taking it as gospel. Here's a recent study.

Here's another write up that references a bunch of other studies as well.

Additionally, here's one of many studies showing that your metabolic rate actually increases after a short period of fasting.

And yeah, these are intraday fasts...I stop eating at 8pm the night before and dont eat again until noon the next day. Sleeping through 7 hours of the fast makes it tolerable lol.

Also, Im running a slight caloric deficit (because Im vain) but Ive spoken with a bunch of folks who have been doing this for 2+ years and have put on mass like crazy while maintaining their bf level if not dropping a tad.

really...interesting. i always stress because my meal timing sucks...i often go 3-5 hours without eating, usually in the evening.

i assumed that eating regularly throughout the day would provide a steady flow of nutrients into the blood.

your meals are larger now, i assume? i don't know how i would manage. it's hard enough for me to get 5 meals in a day without staying up late (which I often do), especially on workout days. i still don't get enough to grow properly.

if i were to implement a fast period, that would make it much harder to cram in the same amount of nutrition.

i would like to keep my gut in check while i bulk my way past 115

I used to stress too, which is why this is such a relief.

I can track down some more studies, but there have been a bunch that show that the body releases more growth hormone after a fasting period as opposed to when youre eating every 2-3 hours.

Also, that insulin spike things about waiting a long time between eating has been discredited a few times over.

So yes, I eat more per meal. The goal is to get a normal amount of calories (2,300 or so for me) into 3 meals. The first meal should ideally be 2-3 hours after your workout on be the largest meal of the day. For instance my first meal today was roughly 1000 calories, and about an hour later I snacked on some almonds with olive oil.

Honestly for someone like yourself who's a hard gainer, I would try something like this and add a cup of ice cream to your last meal every night. Just eat 3 big meals with shitload of protein and a lot of quality fat. That + snacking on almonds throughout the day should provide more than enough calories for you.

I was a pretty big skeptic on IF and read a ton of info...some of what you linked 75th. I've been doing it a couple of months (only I usually do a 9 hr eating window...but girls can) and it's worked well for me. If I'm training fasted, I'll use BCAA's, as well, otherwise time my bigger meals around a workout. It's helped me with appetite control too.
