Interleukin IL-15

New member
I remember a year ago a couple of gentlemen on the board brought this topic to my attention. If I am not mistaken IL-15 is a
an immunostimulatory cytokines used in the irradication of certain tumors. In essence IL-15 is a first line defense mechanisms against infectious agents What if any purported benefit does this bring to the bodybuilding community?

Thank you in advance for any constructive input offered.

Hmm, maybe I answered my own question, but not yet to my satisfaction.

From what I can gather Interleukins (also called lymphokines) are a sub-group of small soluable proteins called cytokines which function as chemical messengers between cells. The role of interleukins is to mediate and control the immunologic and inflamatory response. There are at least 18 known interleukins most of which have only been discovered in the last few years. Their role within the immune system is only beginning to be understood and they are just starting to be utilised in the treatment of a wide variety of diseases including cancer, AIDS and autoimmune diseases such as multiple sclerosis and rheumatoid arthritis.

Interleukins are largely secreted by white blood cells (leukocytes) and received by receptors in others. The stimulation of interleukin receptors causes the recieving leukocyte to behave in a variety of ways depending on its type and the context. These include proliferating themselves, releasing other cytokines, inhibiting the release of other cytokines and activating themselves.

Alright, that makes sense but, IL-15 enhances the proliferation of T Cells. This means what to the bodybuilding community?

are you tring to say that its not good for bodybuilders?it grows muscle..i know that E2 knows a lot about this stuff...he even said its good...

Here's an email I received from someone of the boards a while back.

" Hi Andy,

I saw your post about interleukin on Elite. I would like to discuss this
with
you since I workfor a biotech firm and we are very interested in IL-15.
I
would like to know what type of dosage schedule these athletes are using
and specifically what effect it had on both muscle AND BODYFAT levels. Were
they able to eat much more calories while staying lean? I think this would
be very educational for the both of us. I can provide you with info as I
recieve it on my end from research, especiallythat being conducted overseas.
Unfortunetly the U.S. research has not accumulated a great deal of information,

but I did speak with a Phd. from the east coast who works for a major
pharmaceutical
company, and he had seen research that showed it had great expression in
adipocytes
as well as skeletal myocytes, hence my query into anecdotal lipolytic effect
your aquaintenaces may
have noticed. Anyway I will be confering with a colleague in the U.K. who
has been working
rather exhaustively on this subject, in the near future. This should shed
more light on
this exciting cytokine. Please e-mail me what info you have regarding the
above mentioned
properties and we can thus commence a productive correspondence . Thank
you."

Email me for more info.

ultra, no no no, I wasn't commenting on IL-15's use, since I know nothing about it. I just remembered you mentioned it once or twice, so I bumped it for ya.
