That is how most strength/power athletes train.

I train my squat more or less like that.

I wouldn't call that low volume either. If you have tried to do 6-10 sets of 3 with >70% acclerating every rep in squats, you wil know how hard it is, especially after doing some oly lifts :)
Then follow this up with assitance lifts - cleans pulls, hypers, abwork etc.

I do this type of workout twice a week for squats.
