Interesting paper written about EF

it shows muscle magazine with twice as many registered members as us but we have more than 3x the messages posted and 2x more discussion threads.
i guess we got something to say

also says we are liberal sociocultural = i'll agree

and don't provide a positive enviroment for new members= disagree, its just an initiation phase

I would agree with the article. This place is incredibly cliche as of late and it is hard for new members to break into this environment.

hey i'm new. i've done ok. people just have to stick with it.

actually i agree with it too though.

actually i first joined in july 1999. left for a while came back and my account was gone.

"Karma. The amount of karma measures the quality of a member’s contribution. Members can add good or bad

members are rated for their help and contribution to the knowledge of other members. "

If only he knew the truth.

Haha, sounds good in practice huh? :)

I believe alot of that has to do with most new members seem to be alters.

plus all the interesting members are all banned. as much as I disliked a few of them, no one can argue that they generated quite a stir when they posted here. there's no stir any more.

There are no new members (ok a few here and there) and if you can survive the social interactions on EF - you could probably learn to handle nearly any social situation.

Hey I am a newish member and its a little hard to get into the groove because most conversations or online friendships have been formed. I notice sometimes when a bunch of people who are established are in discussion in post its hard to get in and add. But i have found that most people here have been great so far and very friendly and open.. About the karma.. I guess I just gotta work that!

Would be great if there was some sort of thread where new people could come in and be like here I am.. And let everyone get an introduction...

I am a new member, and it is hard to figure out who is real and who is an alter...it is interesting to read some of the posts and try to figure out who is who...welcome to the internet...

There were social incentives built into the Elite Fitness system that benchmarked the “good standing” of a member in the community. The more a member contributed content (counted by the number of messages posted), the higher that member’s social status became. However, content volume was not the only way to benchmark member contribution, content quality was also measured (see discussions below).

Although it may seem trivial to those who are not members of the community, the ‘status ratings’ did mean a lot to several members especially since there was shared community awareness about such ratings. The Elite system used graphic symbols to convey member’s social rating or position and make others fully aware of that through the system.

I personally liked a member with the handle alien amp pharm. Through a quick use of the search function, I was able to produce a list of the member's posts. This particular member was what seemed to make Elite Fitness such a popular place to visit. Unique, intellengent, humorous, etc. This member definately had all of that and more.

Best research paper ever!

You rock amp pharm.

I liked when it showed a poll, that asked what members liked about Elite. Freedom of Speech got the most votes.

It's a shame that's not allowed anymore either ...

Yeah, but did you notice that poll had like 11 votes total. LOL.

LOL @ the sample size he uses in his polls to generalise across 27,000 members.
Most of those polls had, like, 10 people voting.
I would bet he didnt get a very good mark.

And LOL @ Pharm.

I disagree, at least for C&C.

If you are funny then people will like you. Or, if you are like me, then you gotta post a fucking shitload. And even then people wont like you... but at least they know your name.

whats with this no censorship idea they propose? theres lots of it. this thread might get locked just for saying there is censorship.

no matter what name you post under.

I agree with NB, the C&C board is missing some spark. When I first registered, this place had Satanic Goatslayer, May1010, plifter, and lawdawg.

The only people now that really get any notice/feedback are curling and HI, although Frackle does a good job of stirring up interest in the political arena (the supplements bill thread comes to mind)

If I had any personality at all, I would try to fill some shoes, but I can't think of any good blood splashing, lady in red, euchre stories.

I remember those guys too.

I'm sure I could stir up trouble if I wanted too........fortunately I have too much of a life to do that. Besides, why spoil things. It would only be worth it if a serious debate occurred........but that is rare at the moment.

Maybe more people should stop TRYING SO HARD TO BE FUNNY AND COOL and this spark that is missing will come out on its own.

HINT: 500 daily threads devoted to calling out someone as being gay isn't funny nor is it original. It's kinda sad. Get my drift? Basically what I'm saying is on most days, this board looks like a kindergarten class was let loose under everyone's usernames.

Ok, Ok, I'll quit using the C&C board to ask curling for a date.

I'll take it to PM.

I know what you mean.

When I first came I dived into raging argument with Matttheskywalker (wonder if he remembers)- he's fun to debate with on here.

Just jump on in and be yourself.

Oh and welcome to EF - I'm a NYC gal myself - even though I have sinced moved.

2001-2002 huh?

I think I remember some annoying mamber asking question around that time.

i became a mamber in 2000...so i dont count as a chat whore. it was before the chat board. back when the training board moved weekly and not by the minute/second.

where did the word "mamber" originate?

from boobies?:lil k: :spatts: :bikinimom <---platinum mambers

My first memory of EF was being berated by 2thick and some female member who thought she was smart but wasn't. I posted something on the evolution of man, I can't remember exactly what. Then I had a debate with Matt Skywalker, he surprised me by questioning my intelligence and calling me obscene names. I had to give my credentials to prove my intelligence. I may be an ignorant mother fucker on some subjects, but I ain't dumb. I don't come here to argue, but some times it's unavoidable to a fighter like myself. Nearly every person that I've gotten into it with, I have made friends with. I should run for office.

I'm sure you don't remember but I do. I was so frustrated because I knew what I wanted to get across but I was failing to do so. I got mad because you criticized the shit out of me and you said, "Relax dude, if I got pissed off every time I had a disagreement here, I would have had a heart attack by now." I knew then that you were an O.K. dude.

:)

Yeah, I am an asshole sometimes.

I learned once in real life that acting like an asshole while the other person is calm, cool and respectful makes ME look (and feel) like the biggest idiot on earth.

As a relative newb, this place has some great folks (esp Sawastea, Clean, gonelifting, bodybyfinaplex, geoffgarst, slinky, brett44444444, E.G. Man, etc) and also has some incredibly oversensitive folks and also some prics.
