Interesting Article on EMS and Workouts

I read an article in the April Issue of Ironman MAG. It talked about the use of Eletronic Muscle stimulators during a workout. The author talked about how the EMS can be used in conjunction with a workout to have better lifts for short periods of time. I could not tell if he was using the EMS during the actual workout or between sets, but he told some amazing stories about his trials with the EMS unit. He said that he had already completed his bench set to failure with 400lbs. Then he used an EMS unit on his chest and was able to move the weight again but not a full bench...Then he put the EMS unit on his triceps and was able to do more reps that he said were easy...then he raised the hertz on the machine and benched 440 for 2 reps..then went to 450 for one rep... This was AFTER his workout to failure with 400. He made some interesting claims and used some studies in his article. It seems worth checking into for any of you guys that have an EMS unit and can try this experiment. He also gave stories about using it on other body parts and how it made him stronger for the set.

It made a lot of sense and I liked the article. It is Not up on the web site yet but the Mag is on the stands...so if any of you want to check it out...let me know your opinion on using an EMS in conjuntion with a workout. I know they suck and the claims that the seller make are bogus, but this stuff made a lot of sense.

Painful stuff ideed, even more so the more fast twitch you are.

think of a msucle cramp, that's hwo it feels

I used one a couple of years after I broke my leg and ankle...Alone, it was ok for maintaining muscle but it did nothing for growth. I only used it on my right calf muscle and the "cramp" or intensity level was fine if you started small and worked your way up. I stopped using it because the insurance would not pay for it on a permanent basis...I basically got to try it for free for 6 months. I wish I would have bought one a long time ago and stayed with it. My left calf muscle measures 19" and my right only measure 16.5". It is a bitch to build your calf muscle when you have had an ankle fushion and can no longer bend it at all.
