AMD 3000+ Barton
It'll a little cheaper than a p4 2.8 and out performs it. Now a p4 3.06 will beat the AMD 3000 but it's gonna cost more. I've always been down with AMD because usually you will get more performance for less money and they are better for overclocking but it money was never an issue I'd go with the fastest Pentium cheap available.
