insulting or flattering?

c3ntrifug3

I'll apologize in advance for this rant but I need to ask people's opinions:

Has anyone else ever been accused (openly or behind your back) of taking steroids?

I'm all natural @ 240 pounds. I'm 5'10 with about 10-12% body fat. I've never done ONE cycle...not even some stupid ProHormone but I find that people I meet at parties or acquaintences from school often wind up starting rumors and telling others (most often behind my back) that I use steroids.

The first time someone asked me if I was juicing I was sort of flattered, but the more I think about it the more I realize that it's rather insulting considering the amount of work I put into my diet and workout routines.

In addition, most people (being the uninformed fuck-wads that they are) consider steroid use to be pretty much as bad as cocaine or heroin abuse so the gossip definately isn't harmless.

I've confronted people about spreading rumors and they've apologized...only to continue doing it a week later. How the fuck should I deal with these people?

exatly.......... what some nobody thinks about you is unimportant. what matters to me is my friends and family support me and know how hard i bust my ass.

everyone else, is not worth my time, and thats why you buy that shirt from BBU and laugh at thier skinny butt.

Affirmative.

When I was a junior in high school, one of the top linemen on the football team said I had to be juicing.

He was just jealous; he'd been lifting for much longer than I, and he couldn't bench more than 205 *snicker*.

I was mostly flattered I guess.

I understand.

Just tell them what you think--that it used to be flattering but insults you because of how hard you bust your ass in and OUT of the gym.

In addition, most people (being the uninformed fuck-wads that they are) consider steroid use to be pretty much as bad as cocaine or heroin abuse so the gossip definately isn't harmless.

Agreed.

Even Bill O'Reilly, who's an intelligent, well-informed guy, once spout off some bullshit about "steroids and other narcotics" on his show.

So no, it's not harmless. Then again, I don't know that I'd associate with people who'd believe such drivel. If they're that easily swayed by some gossip, they're not worth your time IMHO.

I've confronted people about spreading rumors and they've apologized...only to continue doing it a week later. How the fuck should I deal with these people?

It depends on the context, bro. But I'd just tell them what's on your mind. If they're reasonable people, they'll hear you out, and that'll be that. They might even realize that you shouldn't have to bloody explain yourself to them and apologize for their insensitivity.

Good luck, regardless. I appreciate your dilemma my man. I'll be curious to hear how it turns out.

I can see how you might be insulted, and some may mean it in a condisending way, however most who comment that someone is probably using steroids because of how they look, do so out of jelousy. They know you look alot better than them, and feel it is obvious that if they are busting their ass, and achieving nowhere near the results that you MUST be on something. Take it as a compliment. This is something that every bodybuilder has to deal with at one time or another. Haters are prevalant, and sometimes even other bodybuilders will envy you, and even insult you for having one body part better than them, or for being leaner than them, etc. Learn to take it as a compliment. Sometimes that is very hard to do, bro, but know that you aren't alone and almost every one of us has to deal with the same thing. As for the rest, they are simply saying that they are impressed with what you have done with your body, and may not mean it in a mean-spirited way. Again, take it as a compliment. At least people are noticing that you have a better body than almost everyone else they see. Its just part of the game... amd its a part that most of us didn't expect when we started training.

Oh, if the stats you gave are really true, and you are 100% natural, I give you props. I'm very impressed, keep doing whatever you are doing, because it obviously is working very well.

On a more serious note than my last post, you may not like the answer to this one. I remember reading an article recently written by Ron Harris, in which he remembers chatting with Flex Wheeler when he first went pro, and was about 215, but had those superb 21" arms. Becuase Ron has competed as a heavyweight and has never gotten his over 18", despite his best efforts he asked Flex what he did for his arms. His reply,"Same shit you do."

Unfortunately not every has been delt the same hand, and there are alot of genetic freaks out there who need nothing more than a little hard work to make gains that most do not even have to capacity to accomplish. Centrifuge, if the stats he gave us are legit, clearly possesses a genetic predisposition for gaining muscle mass that most of us do not. Not to take anything away from his accomplisment, because he has probably busted his ass, but most can't achieve the same thing just by giving 100% in the gym. That's life.

I consider it flattering. Basically they can't believe you are that big/strong without taking steroids,. cos they can't do it themselves.

It's sad really. They want to give themselves a reason for their failure,. They feel better saying to themselves "well of course he/she's better than me, they are on juice"

I couldn't care less really. If they want to think it then let them, i know i'm clean.

BBF do you get a lot of water retention from those pentagon shaped pills?

LoL, I ment that as a joke, and it was a quote. I don't use them because, yes, they bloat me until I look like the pilsbury doughboy. D-bol and I do not get along.

I'm interested as well, but there is one caveat that BBf pretty much nailed himself:

1. If he's 240 naturally at 5'10" (and as lean as he is) then it probably doesn't matter. As long as he worked hard training and eating he has the genetics to gain on just about any regime.

If he got there by doing 20 sets to failure for each muscle group, does that mean you should do the same? That's where I'm going with this...

That is your reason right their... if this is true, you should be an IFBB pro after 1 cycle. I think we have a genetic freak on our hands.

lol... intelligent? probably. Well-informed...questionable :D

heh, sorry, couldn't let that one slip under the radar

Agreed. He should do a heavy bulking cycle, then rip down and hit the NPC circuit. He'll be at a national qualifier in no time.

I don't think I'm a genetic freak by any standards but thanks for the advice on what people say, guys.

It just gets frustrating when I work and work and work and force feed myself 350 grams of dry chicken and beef everyday and then have people start rumors about how I juice.

I have to say that the reason I am where I am today is because of you guys and your advice. I started reading this board about 2 years ago and it's really changed my lifting, diet and (not to sound hokey) my life.

Don't let the stats fool you, I'm not 240 solid muscle. I have a very heavy bone structure and am extremely broad. I've always trained in a 7-8 day split (taking 7-8 days to train entire body).

Right now I can bench 365 or so for a solid 3 reps and squat 415 for 6-8 reps. My deadlift is generally a lot lower than my squat but I don't really know how much because I often dead lift on back day (after doing all of my other exercises).

I generally use 5x5 routines with some westside methodology incorporated into my non 5x5 routine.

My form on squat, bench, deadlift and have the shit I know about lifting I have because of this board and because of you guys. I hate to admit it but two years about I was taking nitrotech, not working legs and doing 20 sets for biceps. No joke. When I started training right I just sort of blew up. Hopefully I'll be able to get some pics up when I get back to school so you all know I'm not bullshitting. Regardless, I seem to learn something new from you guys everyday so I'm not going anywhere :)

I just realized that a lot of the time I say that too :(

I see a guy bigger than me or stronger and more cut than me and automatically write him off as a steroid user. I guess I'm not really any better, now that I think about it.

i get the comment all the time...mostly behind my back. they aren't hearin it when i say i'm natural....so fuck'em. x is right, what and who matter is the people around you who know what your about and how hard you train in the gym...tb

My mom accused me :(
I'm not even big... I cant wait to hear what she says in a few weeks when I bust through the 315 lb 3x5 box squat :)

I would be insulted.
To an eveyday person, they think steroids do all the work, just pump em in, lift weights and you blow up and hella strong, nothing to it.

I saw a post a while back by another board member (can't remember who) that said anytime someone asked him if he was juicing, he showed them the cell-tech ad and said, "See.....right there, you too can add 15 lbs of lean mass! It really works!"

....lol....that should throw 'em for a loop. :FRlol:

CoolColJ, funny story regarding what you said about people thinking steroids do all the work. My friend told this girl about Mendelson's 876 bench. She asked if he was on steroids. My friend said yes, and she said it's not impressive then.

That's the best :fro:

Pick apart the logic of it and realize they are saying this usually because in reality they have a great deal of respect for your body and feel theirs is shit in comparison. So typical as it is for many dumb fuck humans, rather than a more passionate, more intelligent, or more creative focus on betterment of self, they try to level the feelings of relative inferiority by attempting to tear down. By doing so, they show themselves to not only be inferior physically but as it relates to mental maturity as well -- unless you allow yourself to get caught up in their game. Allowing yourself to put too much stock in the intended negativity behind their comments could end up with you putting someone in the hospital, going to jail, losing your job, sued for someone else's medical expenses, etc. all kinds of shit.

Prejudices are what fools use for reason. -Voltaire.

On another note though, if I saw you in person I would think that it's highly probable that you're a juicer.

Nothin personal; at guys your size, alot of them are on juice.

It pisses me off sometimes too, but makes me feel better in a way also. Kind of a love hate reaction. haha I just tell them I take a bottle of flintstone vitamins with meals.
