Instand OatMeal

Yeah - the stuff you have to watch out for is the kind that comes in those little packages - it's usually flavored (e.g. "Maple & Brown Sugar" or "Cinnamon and Spice", etc.,) and it has a ton of sugar.....you're better off steering clear of that garbage!! The only ingredient listed should be: OATS!

If you're turned off by the bland flavor just add a packet of equal or other such sweetener.....or throw in a scoop of whey powder....

According to Barry Sears, instant oatmeal has little to no GLA, which is one of the health benefits of eating the stuff. Don't see how just rolling the oats could change the GLA content, but I generally go with the slow cooking variety for this reason(Even the Old Fashioned Quaker Oats are rolled.) I use Bob's Red Mill scottish oatmeal or steel-cut oats.

I always wondered that also. I have no time to wait for the slow cooking oatmeal so i use Quaker Instant Oatmeal in the packets "Natural" Flavor. Is this alright? Hope it is because i eat a shitload a day!!

The instant varieties tend to have a higher GI because of the extra processing that goes into them. Old fashioned regular oats seem to be the best. Good luck!
