So... I have two job offers right now but one of them is kind of a mess, let me break them down

IT for a local community college: Pros: I get excempt tuition so I could get a free degree in something more useful, I'm leaning towards tech area, has a decent salary(more than I was making) and I'd only work Monday through Thursday. Cons: it's a bit further than B and not very sure if there is room for professional advancement

Counselor for substance abuse program: Pros: I'd finally get to work in my field, I can get trained for a lot of things from paperwork, to counseling in other areas, urianalysis and others, has room for escalation as a full time counselor, program director or more Cons: for now it will be a 1099 and they would pay me per services but they dont know how much I'd be making, however the head counselor said they dont like their counselor in my area and they may offer it to me if I prove to be effective

The IT jobs sounds all around more stable, better benefits and they pay pretty much the same once full time, but the counseling one is kind of what I've really been wanting to do, bad thing is they guarantee nothing which obviously sucks, I'm going in on Monday to get more info on the numbers of what I could be making, the lady said she knew I can make at least $1000 a month and I was like WTF just $1000 :worried:, on another side I can do IT/tech anytime, this is the first and only counseling opportunity I've had in almost 2 years, thanks to the part time I can afford to not make much but I'd hate to blow the IT position and have the counseling position go nowhere in a month or two, I also have no idea how to operate as a 1099, is it too much of a mess as per taxes, medicare and social security?

Any input on this memememeemememe is appreciated since I'm confused :)

Counseling is what I would choose it would be more fulfilling IMO better karma and if you connect with the people you will become an invaluable asset prompting advancement

IT for local community college - better fiscally & more stability. You're not cheating yourself out of future self improvement if this job offers educational opportunities you wouldn't be reticent in pursuing.

Agree

I dont understand why anyone would want to deal with addicts.

Well I've done it before, have a bit of experience in that field, these are different though since these are coming court mandated as part of parole, due to DUI, domestic violence, etc

I feel like it's a now or never with counseling.

ok well court ordered is a waste of your time. they are forced to do it. they wont give a shit what you say and say what you want to hear so they can leave. if you're forced to get it you wont want to be there. i can almost guarentee you will hate this

Well it would be my decision if they pass the course or not, I'm not just gonna let someone who's "going with it" get their license back after a DUI

well if they tell you what you want to hear what can you do

i had friends in high school who needed to do that stuff and none of them quit doing stuff

especially like pot possession charges and things like that, they wont care what you say.

dui charges are different

nan...it sound s a lot like youre leaning towards the counseling one anyway...
you want to defend why its a good choice :)

two jobs
ones IT pays better
ones counseling pay shit

counseling is chosen field
IT is what shes sort of fallen in to

There will be many IT opportunities and probably one counseling opportunity. I see our IT dept interviewing people every week. I think you'll regret it if you don't hop all over this rare opportunity to do what you want to do, nan.

IT!!

Counselor job seems shadey. take the school perks and jib security, and keep searching for a legit/ position in counseling.
Where they can say you're actually going to work.

DrOiD BioNiC EF App!

Damn, I just went into the site or the IT position and found employee beneits, which include $20 a month for my medical, the dental and vision is ully covered by the company, all paid holidays, including paid time off spring and winter break week! Professional leave of up to a year, out of the country travel, the tuition is actually completely exempt! there are also some other tiny little perks like use of athletic areas, passes to sporting events, etc.

Fuck this IT one sure seems to be winning

THIS is what makes me keep holding on to the 1099/counseling position, I'm prob gonna request a sit down for more information since they were so damn vague, they said I was hired but I'm still missing the extensive background check but I'm sure there's nothing wrong there.

I'd go for the sit down and see if you can get all the information so you don't second guess yourself down the road but there is definitely something to be said for good benefit packages and paid time off!!

Just got back and that was INCREDIBLY disappointing, saying they pay shit doesnt begin to describe it, the IT company said they'd fully confirm by end of this week, all that was missing was the reference background check, jeez.
