Injection/Abcess question

I shot 1cc of Proline Test Enan in my right mid delt yesterday morning and it was sore pretty much all last night and today. there is noticable swelling in the area but no redness. I'm "guessing" that it's just irritated from the shot(which wasn't done with the most steady hand) and the BA in the Test. I'll monitor it to see if it gets worse. But would I be correct in assuming it's probably not an infection because it started hurting right away and swelling so quickly? Does an infection usually take some time to develop and show symptoms(i.e. swelling/redness/heat).

Never had an abcess before but all the ones Ive seen didnt even cause pain, swelling or soreness for at least two or three days. Sounds like just a knot to me.

yeah, it's tight like a knot. I just needed some reassurance. I'm used to the pain from sust shots, but this caught me off guard. thanks for the response guys, I'll post again if it gets all nasty and puss filled.

update guys, it's a bit warm to the touch. still no redness, and it's only been 30 hours or so. what are some other signs of an abscess/infection that I should be looking for?

It might be just your muscle healing. Maybe the shot was too quick, or you tore it up a little because you're hand wasn't too steady...or maybe it wasn't deep enough and it's some of the gear is more on the surface of the muscle than deep into it.

I'd say give it a few more days. Is it getting any better? Is it hurting less?

I'm about 90% sure you guys are correct. it's not even been two full days yet. I can afford to go to the doc, if necessary and won't hesitate to do so, but I just don't want to act too prematurely. today it's hurting about the same, swelling is about the same. I have no fever, no redness in the area. I'm just stressing, that's just me. thanks everyone, I'll keep you posted, especially since I'm about to hit 1cc test with 1cc primo, but I'll go with the glute this time. thanks again to everyone, karma to all of you.

this may be unorthodized, and I will probably get hung
for mentioning it, but if you really think it is more than
the lump made from the injection, like a staff infection
or something like that, I would consider trying this,

take a small pin, just the needle.

take and poke that pin into your deltoid about a quarter inch,
and pull it out, if your blood is fighting an infection, you will have
more than just blood coming out of the hole, you'll also have some puss.

I know this because I had a problem once, I injected and once finished
I pulled the pin out and I got puss, so I knew there was an infection brewing.

It went away on it's own.

I hope this helps.

Peace.

oddly enough, I have had the same reaction to my last 4 test enanthate shots. I had no problem at all with my first 2, but same symtoms as yourself for the last. I lowered my dosage and increased the freqency of my inj, but only helped a little. It does seem to be better by the sixth day if that helps, lol. I have always used cyp in the past w/o any discomfort and have been told this is just an effect of the enanthate? I can't say for sure, but in my case the swelling and pain does subside just in time for the next inj.

I was actually considering something along the lines of what you suggested. right now it's still tight like a knot, not really mushy. the pain is about the same today, although last night advil definitely helped. the swelling hasn't really gotten any worse.

Also, I just had my buddy give me that test/primo injection into my glute and so far no discomfort (unlike the delt shot, immediate discomfort).

I'll keep my eye on the delt site for the next few days and if it does swell up anymore, I'll probably just go straight to the doc. I'm just gonna go with the "b12 injection" story.

again, thanks everyone.

Ive had the same experience before when i took a tren shot, it was sore for like a week and it knotted up and hurt to the touch. I just massaged it way, it was like i didnt go deep enough with the poker. Try some ice on it see if some of the swelling goes away. Im almost positive youll be fine.

massaging sounds like a good idea, except it hurts like a mofo. I was just thinking, about 8 years ago I got a tetnus(sp?) shot and it felt much like this. plus my girlfriend works at a veternary office and she has never seen an animal get an abscess from an injection and she was telling me how unsanitary some of their procedures are. for instance, they don't swab the top of the vial with alcohol before they draw. and not to mention the needle has to go past dirty dog/cat hair before it's injected. my point is this... from my research i have found more reports of irritation from injections than actual abscess's.
well, so much for my shoulder or back workout today. I'm going to blast my quads.

just an update...

It has now been three days and if I had to say whether it was getting better or worse, I'd say it's just a little better. There is some redness, but very faint and hard to see. It is still definitely sore, but I take advil once during the day and once before bed and it helps a lot. I've also been monitoring my body temp and it's been normal, no fever. Now if this was actually an infection/abscess that wasn't going to go away on it's own, wouldn't it have gotten worse over the past three days?

you will know if you have an abcess by the way it looks and feels. it is a different pain from a black and blue type pain and is usually raised as pus is trapped under your skin.

there is usually a small yellow circle at the top of the abcess. i had a very painful one on my leg once (non AAS related), that turned out to be a boil, or carbunkle. this happens when a hair follicle get infected. the size of it was huge, like half of my thigh!

i called my doc and he prescribed doxyclisone (sp?) which didn't help. it got so painful i took my thumbnail, pierced it and squeezed the pus out. yes this hurt but when done the pain was instantly gone. i rubbed it with alcohol for a few days after to prevent further infection.

Ok then, from what I can gather what I probably have then is a sterile abcess, not a septic abcess. I suppose my question should be this: Does a sterile abcess generally go away on its own, or is it likely that it will get infected somehow?

i may be pointing out the obvious here, but for future reference and for all the newcomers use a new syringe EVERY time youo do a shot(they are too cheap and easily accessible not to), swab the top of the vial with alcohol before inserting drawing needle, and always use a different needle for poking than for drawing. and oviously, swab the entire injection area before and after injection with alocohol and massage the injection area for 30-60 seconds after injection to disperse the gear throughout the muscle. it also helps to squeeze some of the gear through the needle before insertion to lubricate the poke. i've never had so much as a lump, but then again i'm a glute only guy. glutes forever.

nadr,
that's definitely good to point out about the proper sanitary procedure. But I assure you, I'm 100% clean. wash my hands, alcohol swab everything(wait for it to dry on it's own instead of blowing on it), etc... that's another reason I am leaning towards a sterile abcess, because I know I used a clean/new needle. Tomorrow will be another day, I have a feeling it's going to get better because I've spent more time with the heating pad/hot shower.

just stuck a pin in my shoulder and drew out a bit of puss. fuck this, i'm on my way to the er, I'll pay my $100 deductible and get on with it already. I'm going in with the b12 story and I plan on sticking to it no matter what.
wish me luck.
