Injecting, and pulling out blood???

After I injected the pin, I pulled and the sirynge and to tube filled with blood. I didn't know what to do so I pulled it out and dumped it and started over.
What exectly does this mean and why have i heard that it is bad?

You hit a vein...no biggie, but I would have just pulled out and re-stuck...the blood was clean and it was yours...so why throw it out?

Hit a vein. Pull out and try again. Thank goodness you asperated! Could you imagine what would have happened if you didn't!

You would not have liked it. Overall feeling of being at deaths door for 5 minutes or so. Good job aspirating so that you can catch it before it happens.

I did that before and thought I was going to die. It can cause all kinds of issues. It was freaking terrible!!

As to throwing it away and starting over... you did the smart thing and really the "only" correct choice for numerous reasons.

One infection risk though minimal is stilla risk if you restick with the same syringe. Two since you already have blood in the tube it makes it hard to draw back to make sure you're not in a vein again.

agreed
:coffee:

Just to clarify, what I meant was, once the tube has blood in it and if you reuse it, and if you hit a vein the second time, you might not be able to tell as there is already blood in the syringe.

Never restick, that the golden rule in medicine.

That would be the second rule....i think the first would be not to use unpriscribed drugs...but ignore that one :)....I once new somone who lost their arm from sticking in the wrong place :(....

Always use precaution when sticking!

does blood mean you hit a vein OR an artery?

i don't always aspirate but i go very slowly. i'll check with the doc this week on this issue when i go in for my physical.

I disagree with this. With oil based gear blood stays near needle and can be ejected easily. Of course this is not the only issue to consider but the only time that I drew blood. I just shot it in the sink and went back at it. Everything was fine.

why would you not inject blood from your body back in? Its a waste not to..... If you get enough aas in a vein, you will start to sweat uncontrolably(spelling) and start hacking up a lung. Followed by a super increase in heart rate. Not fun

If you use the same syringe that you had and re-aspirated i think if you hit a vien/artery you'd be able to tell if there is more blood being sucked in the syringe.

exactly.....who in their right mind would waste an entire syringe of juice for a few drops of blood.....you would notice more blood if you happened to hit a vein again

Well there was one time when I did aspirate and after the injection I felt terrible. I had a hard time breathing and could not take a deap breath. Not to mention sweating like crazy and panicing didn't help. That was not fun but I tried walking around like it didn't bother me.
