Incline DB Press form?

My workout partner has been telling me to rotate my hands inward (so my wrists touch) at the top of my rep. Does this actually help work the chest at all?... because I feel like it kind of just puts more strain on my tris.

I remember reading a thread before about turning your wrists in at the top. I've always done it, whether it helps or hurts, couldn't tell you unfortunately.

I wouldn't (and don't) do it. It might help you contract the pecs about 1mm extra, but not worth the rotation at the shoulder IMO...espcially considering the weight being supported by the shoulders.

Try squeezing your shoulder blades together during the lift, this takes your delts out of it, and puts more emphasis on the pecs. It feels a little different, but it's more effective.

makes sense
....riddle me this-

trained with a competive bb about a year ago, for flies we turned the pinkies toward each other (db and cable flies)
it felt like it contracted more, just a wasted motion is is this ok with the lighter wieghts used in flies?

I rotate so the pinkies touch at the top. Definitely a better contraction, but I would be careful of going too heavy. Make sure that you can maintain control of the weight throughout the movement. I only do declines as a stretching movement, not really as a mass builder, I think inclines and flat bench are much better movements for stimulating fiber recruitment and growth.

Well, it's definitely better to do it with lighter weights. But it's still risky, as the shoulder have a pretty unstable design. If you do what I said and pinch your shoulder blades together, you shouldn't need to turn the weights because you can't really go much farther. Give it a shot, and if you still feel like you need to turn them in, go for it...just go slow and really concentrate on keeping the shouler stable.
