In some serious pain...

sorry to hear that QT. hope you have a quick recovery. your tough your from canada

I'll rub it for you. :qt:

Seriously, go see a doctor. I had a similiar problem awhile back with my back. I didn't listen and by the third workout, I heard a loud crack and couldn't walk for a little while.

last week after dips my shoulder felt kinda fucked. This week after warm up and one work set my shoulder felt REALLY fucked.

Likely shoulder strain, rotator cuff is tweaked.

Try stretching the shoulder from every angle so you can isolate where it's having the problem.

sports med clinic, get it checked. laying off wont always be enough. i have to go myself, i was on the dip bar doing weighted dips with 2 45s around my waist like a hero, and the block slipped when i went to get down, jarred my left shoulder to hell. im glad i didnt dislocate anything. the guys watching me all had that "man that could have been really bad" look on their faces. so did i, i suppose..

I agree with Div, prolly the rotator cuff

Unfortunately rotator cuff injuries are very common. Over the last couple of years I have tried rest, active release, ice, msm, glucosamine and chrondroiton. I have yet to try prolotherapy, deca, adequan or surgery. One of my friends told me that his shoulder finally healed when he iced, rested and put his arm in a sling for a month.

Sorry to hear it QT. Like the guys have said it sounds like your rotator cuff. RC problems can nag you for a long time if you don't take care of it the second you start having the discomfort. See a doctor and get started on physical therapy. I hope you won't need surgery.

I rushed here as fast as i could when i saw the title.............

I just knew QT had swallowed a frog looking for her prince!
Glad it wasn't that! ...whew!

Feel better hon. Whenever I get an inury, which is often, I try and avoid exercises that aggravate the injury for a few weeks and then go back to them (gradually at first). It's worked like a charm so far. Plus, it forces me to change up my routine which I really should be doing anyways.

dips are often hard on the shoulder.
qt- ice it. lay on a bed with your arm either flat by your side, or lay on some pillows with your arm not on them so its falling slightly back and ice your front delt.
rest it- don't do anything with that shoulder for at least one week, and take a motrin in the morning and at night but don't be fooled by the false sense of recovery.

10 years of dips taught me somthing: NO MORE DIPS! Last time I played that game I was out for 2 months.

Follow that Dingo and go to a Sports Clinic, sugs icing advice is prime and her statement of do not get fooled by the NSAIDS tendency to make us feel that a full recovery has taken place is sage indeed.

Good luck.

10 points for knowing what a dingo is, Chef ;) im impressed

unless you learned it watching some bullshit lindy chamberlain documentary, in which case, -10 points

shoulder injuries can be very difficult to diagnose (especially over the internet). Go see a doc (preferably sports med if you have to). There are range of motion tests, etc. that can be used to make a clinical diagnosis, but an MRI may very likely be in order to tell you for sure. MRI of the shoulder and possibly MRI of c-spine.
good luck.

Dude, I was a chef in antigua, there were more aussie and kiwi yachties on that rock durring regatta than you could shake a didge at.

Oh, that, and 'the deeengo ayte ma baybie'.

who DOESn"T know what a dingo is?

Sorry to hear that QT

I'd say rest, anti-inflammatories, ice and see a doc if it keeps hurting

Thanks everyone I will keep you updated.

Hopefully it's nothing more than a rotator cuff strain and can be healed with some stretching and isolation exercises.

give it some rest, hopefully it will right itself.

thank god i clicked on this thread. not for anything that was in the thread per se, just that for some odd reason i decided to click on superqt's gallery and now i've spent the past 30 minutes masturbating until i've become chaffed and my gf is gonna think i have a cold from all the used tissue.

Your concern for my shoulder is heart warming!

I hope to be in some serious pain later....it's back day. Right now i'm at work running cat5 wire in the damn ceiling.

It could be a pulled rotator. Mine was fucked for years after the first injury, going from the back to the front, and it still sometimes bothers me even after seeing the chiropractor and doing cuff exercises. You must be careful and be sure to let it completely heal. I know it's tough to hold back in the gym but you've got to for a while, otherwise it could bother you for years like mine. It still hurts on dips sometimes, and others it's good. I think it depends on just how limber you can keep it; don't let scar tissue build up after it heals, since that will make it hurt. A chiropractor or good trainer can help you break up that scar tissue after it's healed if you have actually injured it that bad.

This isn't like sex, QT, sometimes you have to go easy with these other delicate parts of the body. ;)

....it will take time to heal......be sure to hit at least 2 exercises for them 2x per week

It may not even be your rotator...go see a doctor already. Order an MRI. Do you have insurance? If you do there's no reason not to get an MRI.
I live in Canada the whole dam country is insured, but we can't just order up and MRI like it is a big mac either.

wow, suks 2 b canadian.

just got what I presume to be a rotator cuff injury too....have had them before. worst thing is, I had no idea i even had an injury till i got home later, the slightest niggle was a clicking noise during benching i think, and that was all it took. I still have almost full ROM, which isnt as bad as past injuries (i havent either due to pain or full tear) but my arm moves very slowly now

worse still since i thought it wasnt r.cuff at first i didnt ICE or NSAIS it for the first 5 hours as there was no pain in workout (and was for all my others)

Im planning on NSAID use for the first 3-4 days, I think it becomes inneffective after that unless your going for analgesia and then paracetamol is probably better as it is less catabolic and better on the gastric mucose

as soon as the pain goes away (its bad :( ) I plan on starting isometric exercises ASAP...for about 1-2 weeks, then building up whenever possible to light weight and push ups and then back into it 4-6 weeks later hopefully.

dammit though...after a long layoff this isnt what i needed, and right now all i want is painfree motion + full or near full ROM at speed. I really hope i havent torn it at the tendon or something more serious :(
