"Animal Style" - bun is grilled with mustard, sauteed onions instead of raw, pickles, extra "special sauce"

"Wish Burger" - no meat, i.e. veggie burger

"Protein Style" - lettuce wrapped around the burger instead of a bun for all of you who are in "The Zone"

"Old Fashioned Style" - ketchup and mustard instead of the weird special sauce

"Flying Dutchman" - two meat patties with two slices of cheese. that's it.

"Double Meat" - Double Double without cheese

"4x4" - 4 meat patties with 4 slices of cheese. Are you SURE you can eat that?

(and the bulking cycle favorite 12x12, true story)

"2x4" - 2 meat patties with 4 slices of cheese for the fromage afficionado

"Grilled Cheese" - cheeseburger, sans meat

"Fries - well done" - get your fries extra crispy and brown the way you like them!

"Choco-Vanilla Swirl Shake" - just what it sounds like

"Neopolitan Shake" - a blend of chocolate, vanilla and strawberry shakes.

175 stores in 3 states - Cali, AZ and NV.

In n Out is the most succesfull fast food restaurant.. hands down.

There are quite a few reasons why.. but here are some:

1) All stores are family owned
2) They pay far more then minimum wage. Part time employees get 401k and vacation.
3) Managers average 85K per year and the average tenure is 13 years with the company.
4) It was started in the 50s by a husband and wife... the wife is still the CEO at age 83.. her husband died in the 70s.

This is their menu:
Burgers
Fries
Shakes
Sodas

That's it... no chicken, no salads.. no desserts... nothing.

The last change to their menu was in 1992.. approved by the CEO... they added Dr. Pepper to their available soft drinks.

They do not talk to the press. They are not publicly owned. They do not franchise. Things like the "secret menu" help enhance their cult following.

They are primarily in Souther California. They spread their restaurants out in LA and San Diego so that there is ZERO chance of competition between stores.

Their first restaurant out of state was in 1992.. in Nevada.

When they opened in Phoenix three years ago, there was a 4 hour wait to get a burger.

Average wait times are 15 minutes or more.. yet they score far higher then McDonalds or Burger King on the timelyness surveys.

Because they are not publicly owned.. and they do not sell franchises.. their focus is on their quality product..

They market with primarily billboards and radio... another cult following building.

They never have, and still do not have any freezers.

The buns are sponge bread and made fresh daily.

Its an awesome place.. still, not healthy though. A Double Double has 41 grams of fat. 670 cals.

This one dude from another forum ate a 20 x 20. Crazy shit.

I want my mommy. :bawling:

i ate a 10 x 10 on a bet, finished it but it had to come back up cuz i felt like SHIT. BTW, that "secret menu" is nothing new. My brother used to get flying dutchmen waay before the atkins craze. I still can't figure out why in and out is only here in ca with limited locations in nev and az...

One other reason it's my fav, which no one has mentioned yet, is b/c all their veggies are certified organic and NOTHING is frozen. This could also be part of the reason for their clustered locations. Shipping non-frozen meat can be difficult from only one distributino center to all 50 states.

For some reason i'm thinking that if you eat a 20x20 or something along those lines, in and out buys your meal.

pretty good stuff though, the waits are some times rediculous
