*Important: There's A Hacker Amongst Us!*

NO i'ts not me, and YES I'm being serious!

There must be a hacker amongst us here, or someone who unknowingly is spreading some sort of virus, etc that tries to attack our PCs, and/or is causing problems with access to the site/forum.

Yet again, when I tried to open a thread this morning I got a warning message from my security programs indicating that someone/thing had tried to attack my computer. This also occurred yesterday and I'm no longer assuming it is a temporary problem.

I ran a few tests here to see whats up...
and I've got the IP#/address of the attacker.
If the administrators would like some help in this matter, PM me! I will divulge the IP and they can take it from there.

If it matches a member's IP#, well then I was correct in my assumption...
and I have an idea who it might be.
If it doesn't at least those running the show here will have something to go by.

Peace

what? you mean elite fitness is the i.p addy?

That's why I was asking about the kind of attack. I stopped listening to warnings and alerts from firewalls long ago. There's so much necessary and innocuous Internet traffic which are just the normal ebb and flow of data packets which some firewalls insist on bleating about to let you know that they're active that they stop being worth listening to unless you're on a hunt.

Here, if you guys don't believe me...
the IP# is actually the forum's addy!

I'm assuming the site is carrying the problem, someone musta hacked it.

Bro, like I posted above...
it's the forum's IP address. And thus I'm thinking it's carrying a problem.

i dont know what that shit means but i think its pissing me off

You can do a rough and ready scan of your own machine at http://www.grc.com

Click on "Shields Up". Scroll down the following page until you get to "Hot Spots" and select "Shields Up" in that section. Click on "Proceed" and then select "All Service Ports". Ideally you should be completely stealthed.

I'm assuming (I know it's not good to do) that the server is carrying a virus, etc.
Could be wrong...?

I had 39 attacks trying to buffer overflow by this site....it is an attempt to gain entry into your computer by a backdoor....

this has been going on for like a week, my comp is totally messed up because of it, I'm using my husbands now and hope its not gonna get fucked up. Today prob again for like 3 hours to get this page opened

dood this is not f'n funny i am in the midst of scanning right now and so far 1 thing has been detected...i am bout to throw on my shoes and kill!!!!!!! lol

Ivan posted this a day or two a go, may not be releated but it's a good idea to catalogue it with this thread/report

Catalogue it... LOL
yes, better get your case file set up and the evidence in order. when the trial comes, we'll have our team of expert witnesses on hand to tackle the situation.

I work doing software testing and debugging. So when a problem comes up we file and "catalogue" all related cases (or anything that seems related) together. Stupid head.

sure you do.

Yup, it screwed my computer up and zonealarm blocked all internet traffic now from the wifi I was connecting with so I had to lower my alert system just to be able to logon to the internet this morning. I mean b/c of this I had no access to the internet b/c of it setting off my firewall. I had to lower my defense system just to be able to logon, what a pain in the arse. I dont know what's going on with this site but I picked up on it too. Now Im going to have to sweep my computer for unwanted activity later. Its a brand new laptop so I dont have important stuff entered on it thats the only reason why I lowered my firewall setting this morning. I wasnt sure what was going on until I saw this thread, wasted time trying to figure it out and get online this morning, glad to see this thread. Thanks

This is not good, if we are not given a heads up by the powers to be I am logging out and taking a rest from EF.

I enjoy this site but nothing I mean NOTHING is worth all the trouble this could bring.

A10, i always knew u were a good bro, big headz up on this one bor

thinking about the same thing and I want to get an e-mail from administrators or something when its safe to log in

Do we have any evidence that he or anyone else here is logging anything more than bounced packets from their own attempts to access the servers?

What ports are you detecting activity on?

Personally I'm pretty much stealthed.
Ran a successive test at ShieldsUp...
maybe bullett can further help.

But again, twice when I tried to read a couple of threads I got the attack message and couldn't get back in here for at least 30 mins.
Either someone who's posting is carrying something and spreading it, or...?

It's just that I'm on a mac, ergo immune to Windows hacks, and behind a router/firewall and fully stealthed. None of my machines could connect either including a Windows machine.

My other browsing was completely unaffected as was my download speed, which I checked by grabbing a largish file. I have to assume that I wasn't under attack, as such, but the site was still down. My thoughts still sit with a DDOS on the site. That doesn't rule out malformed images and the like sitting around but they wouldn't stop everyone connecting for these outages. I can't rule out viral infections and the like but they aren't what's causing the downtime.

About two weeks ago, my laptop literally shut down everytime I logged into here. I screwed up my hard drive so badly I had to buy a new laptop.

I bought a new laptop three weeks ago and now that one is acting all fugged up...

Hmmm, quite possible...
again, I got two "A recent attempt to attack your computer" message when clicking on a couple of threads.

George's got look into this, seriously.

Sad how some people take this shit so lightly...
it's quite pathetic my honest opinion.

Oh well, some people also don't give a fuck about their online privacy, etc...
to each his/her own.

I take it so seriously that I know that I'm as safe as I can be without switching off.

For the people who are getting this message, are you running IE or an alternative to it?

IE with McAfee Virus Scan.

Sometimes I get booted offline when I try to open another thread. I thought it was something wrong with my ISP until a few others started in.

I'm running firefox and I just did a scan with Norton and I got nothing.

Same here. I haven't had the message at all. If there were such a virus, I would think it would first scan the ports of all members then generate a list of computers that it gained access to. I seriously doubt that EF's security is so bad that someone could gain access to the EF servers then sit there long enough to just pick and choose who they want to hack.

What I'm thinking is that it's exploiting a vulnerability in IE

ok whoever is doing it, if you want access to my machine just PM me already, i hate people sneaking around

...but whatever you do, do not open the folder titled "Do Not Open This Folder"

trust me on this

serves ya right for using IE
A little harsh. That's like telling someone that they're too stupid to use a computer. If a few of us walk away from this with a little more awareness of computer security then it might not all have been in vain.

Step one for many is to download Firefox and stop using IE. It probably won't have any bearing on the outages, though.

Get Firefox here...

Same here... I have spent waaaaaaay too long fine tuning my firewall/AV so that it has passed every intrusion test out there... I know it can never be 100% impenetrable, but I would like to think it is somewhat secure... This stuff is serious.
