kid #1: 18 years old and registering for his 2nd year of college on monday. He struggles academically and also has an attention problem, so I was worried that he wouldn't do well in college. I see him as a "trade school" kind of guy, but I really wanted him to at least get an associates degree. I think it'll take him 3 years, but he's moving along with it and likes college. makes me happy.

kid #2: 19 years old. Goes to school in florida. Acts, models, and has a trust fund. He has a good time, but does really well in school. Wants to be a child advocate lawyer. :)

I hope I had some influence about college on both of them.

Life is long plenty of time for disappointment! Never count your eggs before they hatch!

Gratz, it sounds like you've done a reasonable job raising your children.

Only thing I would add is that I don't believe material wealth or college degrees have any real bearing on whether a person is a success at life.

I know more than a few people with baller degrees and make +100k that are real pos's and/or have serious issues.

That doesn't seem to be the case with yours. Just felt like using an example. Many college educated people are fucking practically retarded when it comes to common sense or being in non-academic situations and this is coming from first hand experience.

That's a great run. You should be proud.

And to me, "trade school" is a good thing. I won't hurt us to have a few people around who still know how to actually do things. I used to work with a lot of well-degreed engineers, until I discovered that the master machinists who work for them are the ones who actually make things work.

Great job Letto!

And remember:

Whatever post secondary education route your children pursue their future success will only be ensured by participation in a killer internship.

just sayin'

it's true that an education doesn't guarantee success, but it's guaranteed not to deter it.

My son might very well go to a trade school, or take over my stepfather's business, where he works now once in a while. Still, he needed more education, and more time to discover what he likes. It's also giving him confidence in his intelligence, which he didn't have before.

kid #1 may be more talented than kid #2.

Kids with attention disorders and academic trouble often have very high iq's and/or creative genius.

Anyhow, with the way the world is setup(fucked up beyond all repair) raising your kids well enough for them to do well enough to get into decent colleges(provided you aren't paying the tuition considering any joe blow can get a decent gpa and qualify for a decent college while really talented individuals earn scholarships) is something to be proud of.

It's hard enough raising kids and keeping them out of trouble and from turning into total fuckups, let alone them turning out successful by modern standards.
