I'm seeing more places selling granite countertops for less money nowadays. I went with the Corian type counters which was a mistake IMO, while they cost about the smae or just a few dollars less than Granite. I like the Granite.

There's a new granite-like surface, I believe it's manmade, not sure and it's supposed to be better than granite. My brother's looking into it for his addition.

It's not, if used to significantly less and the sales pitch relied heavily on "how easy it is to care for and repair" and $$$.

Corian has improved greatly over the year as have the man made "faux granites". You can find stone and corian for the same prices and depending on your living style there's also limestone, soapstone and lava that can be used.

If you'r gonna pay $10k for a counter you'd be crazy to get corian because granite will always be superior, even if it's merely on the simple level of snobbery.

that's true. Got Granite in our kitchen...was about 16.5k, builder pricing too... but It rocks. Haven't had a single complaint about it from anyone. very easy to take care of.

Also, any granite yard will have cleaning and polishing products in the event that it need a freshening up that you can do yourself.
