I'm a 19 year old guy in college and I want to lose about 15 pounds. I decided that I'm going to try out the atkins diet and cut carbs whenever I can. I like peanut butter and cheese and I've heard from some people that those things are okay to eat because cheese has no carbs or fiber and peanut butter has minimal carbs and will fill you up. Please let me know what things I can now eat that I normally wouldnt cause theyre high in fat (ex. things like p. b. and cheese). Also list some things to definitely stay away from. Thanks in advance.

Stay away from ALL carbs

eat:
meat
eggs
cheese
fats

Read my CKD manual on top of the page, it's a STICKY.

What kind of "fats" do you mean? Also I read your article but could you please list as many foods that you know of that are good to eat on atkins? for example what fruits (if any) vegetables, p. b., cheese, etc. etc.

no fruits, no veggies

stick to MEAT
EFA= MCT, flaxseed oil, olive oil, walnut oil etc...

cheese is good, also heavy cream

Just make sure it's under 20g carbs a day, look at the labels for more info.

what about sausage and salami and balogna etc? Or by meat do you mean whole meats like steak, rost beef, and chicken breasts?

Sausages are fine as long as you make sure they are near 0 carbs, some sausages have carbs in them. Same goes for salami and balogona. I really would stay away from processed meats, the sodium content is too high. I always recommend whole meats.

Like I said I'm in college and sticking to this diet is going to be hard. I dont eat breakfast and I dont eat to much for supper. BUT for lunch I usually have a sandwich, cookie and a bag of chips. All of those are probobaly moderate to high in carbs, is it bad if I have that for lunch but then eat cheese's, peanut butter (low carb) and whole meats for the rest of the night? Will the mix of high carb then little to no carb make me gain wieght? OR should I just cut carbs whenever I can? Thanks for your help so far!

As Mr x has already stated NO carbs Your lunch will put you WAYYYY over on a ckd Diet.

1 Slice Bread =approx 17g carbs X 2 for 2 slices
Cookie Depending on size and type anywhere from 10-20g
Chips =approx 20-30g of carbs so thats a good 64g and thats using minimums and you want to take below 20g in a day.

Then CKD is not the diet for you...stick to a normal diet that you have been folling then.

I should be able to stick pretty close to a ckd diet once this years school semester lets out. Well maybe I cant do a ckd diet but cant I just eat that for lunch and then cut back on carbs the rest of the day?

Yup, cutting back on carbs would be a good idea, it's a step towards Ketosis. Over time, if you keep carbs under 100g (assuming you workout/cardio) you'll probably hit ketosis.

What about peanut butter? As far as living in a dorm p. b. is the easiest and most accesible thing to me. I have found a p. b. that only has 4 carbs per every 2 table spoons.

I realy dont see you makeing much progress with a cutting diet that consists of 1 sandwich, 1 cookie, and one bag of chips, and peanut butter the rest of the day. you might want to reconsider this idea.

I know that I'm FAR from being as knowledgable as Mr. X when it comes to nutrition... but I did lose a lot of weight during H.S. and I tried several methods. None of them worked, until I just started eating healthy, and lifting weights excessively. My diet wasn't any miracle diet.. I just ate sparingly, watched my calorie intake, and cut the fast food and sodas. I lost 25lbs of fat. It took me longer than the Atkins diet, but the fat has stayed off. I found some useful info about the "Atkins" diet, and about reaching "ketosis" that I found useful. Using Ketones for energy will inflict enormous amounts of metabolic stress. Even though you can loose lots of weight this way, it's obviously temporary mostly because of the dehydration effect. Your brain requires carbs for fuel, taking them away can lead to being light headed, or disoriented. It can also create dangerously low blood sugar levels. For those that incorporate insulin, you could be sending your self into a state of comatosis due the severe drop in blood sugar. Constipation is often experienced on this diet as well. Your energy levels will drop... and on top of all that.. it's extremely catabolic. I would highly suggest if you want to lose 15 pounds, just look back and see the methods men have used for decades that work over, and over again: Take in fewer calories, eat less, lift weights.. never, EVER fails. More and more people are getting fat, not because they eat more startches, or take in more carbs.. but because they're lazy, and survive off of fast food! Take time to prepare good meals, throw them in the fridge.. and microwave them when you're ready. I know that 90% of this board is body builders, and people aspiring to be bodybuilders, so the Atkins diet, or ketogenic diet may work to help you prep for a show.. but for the average person it's definately a bad idea because there's no way to keep it up long. It's like kickin the shit out of your body from the inside. So, if you're trying to squeeze into a prom dress in 3 weeks.. try the Atkins diet. If you want to get into good shape, WORK OUT!
