I'm SO Pissed!

So you would THINK I would know better.

Tonight I did Chest and Shoulders. I usually start with Chest, but with all the newfangled dorks in my gym, it was too crowded. SO I started with Shoulders - DB Overhead Presses. Did 2 WU sets, the 3 heavy sets. Then moved onto BB Upright Rows with a pre-loaded curl bar. My normal weight, I might add.

I do one heavy set, 10 reps. Feels fine. I feel good, strong. I do the second heavy set. 10 reps, all is good. THIRD heavy set, I get to 8 and feel VERY close to failure. But I'm no wuss. I tell myself I am doing 2 more, no doubt. I do 1 more, barely. Know I should stop there, but I don't. I do the 10th one - and on the upward motion I feel a TWINGE in my left trap. And I can't bring the weight up anymore.

I stop (because, afterall, I DID do the full set) and stretch. Left Trap is feeling twinge-y and cramp-y. Whatever. I still have a lot to do.

SO I keep doing my workout. Even though everytime I move my left Trap screams at me and I can't turn my head to the right without pain. Doesn't hurt WHILE lifting, just after. But I got a good workout anyway. Awesome lifts.

I suck - and will pay dearly for this tomorrow. Although I HOPE not. Good thing I already had a massage scheduled for Thursday! I am off to take a loooonnng hot shower and take some Advil.

BTW - this is in no way meant to encourage this type of stupidity. Simply a reminder injuries happen to everyone and I apparently am not as smart as I thought I was. lol :)

Be careful Daisy! Listen to your body. It's no fun being injured-- especially long term. But I can understand how it's hard for you to back off of what you're usually doing. Just baby it for a little bit and I'm sure it'll bounce back to normal soon.

Take care of yourself cookie!

hey D-- dont forget RICE.. rest, ice, compression, elevation :)

or better yet-- get some Vioxx!!!

& my gym is sooooo crowded now too-- when do these newbies leave???? LOL!

EXACTLY what happened to my brother-in-law. Guy went into the gym and of course it was full of the "January crowd". Switched up what he was doing, trying to fit in a solid workout, but instead of blowing his trap, he blew out his shoulder. Almost ripped his cuff and was out of commission for about 10 months.

DG I know what your talking about, I've had the same "twingy thing" from doing DB shoulder presses. I think I get it NOT from the force of pushing upwards but it's the balancing thing over my head with the weight that seems to hurt my traps (either that or I've "shifted" my back while I was pushing to get better...purchase? I can almost feel it go when it does). Hurts to move a certain way for the next few days. I found if I put heat on it (to stimulate blood flow) it loosens up and seems to heal better and faster. I go to the chiropractor regularly too because my lower back is mince-meat and when I mention the trap thing she does a couple of things that seem to really help too (usually around L-5).

It really pisses me off too! Instead of feeling a good mix of "pump" and doms for the next day or two, you feel kinda crippled instead. It's like getting ripped off for the effort you put in.

Try relaxing your back anyway you can (heat, sleep, hot bath, experienced massage, etc.) and it may help. That's what works for me when I get that.

OUCH! Sorry you're hurt, DG. Hopefully it will be OK in a few days with rest and advil.

I'm sending all kinds of good vibes your way. :)

DG - the same shit happened to me a while back - if this presist, see if you can get an ultrasound treatment. I suffered for 2 days, they once of got the session - I was cured -:) $40 was all it cost me.

I hope you recover soon.

Ouch!! Hope you heal up quick. It sucks to be injured, I know.

Thanks Ladies.... It feels a little better today, but still VERY ouchy. :( Have a massage scheduled for tomorrow...hope that helps. Advil has been my friend today! :)

Yes, Heal up first......then get back on track. You don't want to make it any worse :) G-Luck
