I am in Seoul at the Lotte Hotel. Spent a day in tokyo, now about 4 days here and then back to Tokyo for more work the end of the week.

We've opened an office in Shanghai and India, and might now have one here.

Here are some economic facts for you, take them however you want:

Europe - the past. Your time has come and gone.
The USA - the present. Today we rule the world and the sun shines on us.
Asia - the future. These people are hungry to grow and develop and they are moving very very fast: China, Vietnam, Korea, Japan....it's amazing.

We will work for them within the professioal lifetimes of todays college kids if we do not recognize our educational shortcomings.

what does southeast develop thats so great? research? medical? military? space travel? science?

dont you think all this cheap labor etc will just move to somewhere else?

I loved ice skating at Lotte World.

Free trade will keep us economically viable. If we can get the Chinese governent to allow their people to freely buy Microsoft, Boeing, Coke, McDonalds and Chevys we will benefit as much as they will.

Chinese will copy Microsoft, Boeing, Coke, McDonalds and Chevys. Thats what they do.
 
That's exactly the reasons why I'm out of Asia hopefully by the end of this year. Its quickly going down the same drain hole as the West.
 
I'm moving to Japan in the next 45 days, it's good to know I moving to the future. Before I go I'll pm you for the "great things to do" list. I speak Indonesian and Malaysian and a little Tagalog so I need to add Chinese in there to really have a good time. How is the English in the places you have gone?

I see your point but the Chinese are faster, better at details, smarter, and there are a few more of them.

Plus our spies have a harder time passing themselves off as Chinese.

There are plenty of American Asians who could be spies. The Chinese will never go anywhere with their current government. I honestly don't believe Asians are really any smarter than any other race. I think there is a certain percent of people who are highly intelligent for example like 10%. But 10% of 2 Billion is a much higher number than 10% of 300 million.

I agree...the ones who make it here are top asians from their country so they are smartest ones here so america thinks they are ultra smart and so successful etc...but look at the average asian over there

China has some of the most severe poverty in the world and a rising AIDS epidemic and Japan's economy hasn't been doing all that great lately.

Matt and others, if you had to pick one, mandarin or cantonese, which would you learn? I'm starting a mandatory mandarin program soon.
 
i was in korea for 18 months a few years back....bo buy some juice its real cheap

food was great...50%of people were assholes to americans, women were cute but dumb, country smells like shit.

I´m inclined to agree but you can´t equate european and american education. Fact is, courses aren´t market based enough, they´re full of idealistic unproductive things
 
China is not becoming a first world country anytime soon. They´re just fuckin big and are finally waking up a little bit, and it shocks the world market already

Engrish!

I'd pick Mandarin because the current ruling party seems to be pushing for Mandarin in the Southern Provinces. Cantonese make great egg rolls though

Mandarin, because it's also the prevailing language in Taiwan.

I think Taiwan speaks Cantonese and calls Mandarin "dog Chinese". If I were inclined, I would learn Mandarin.

So far the meetings are going pretty well; met with Sasung, LG, Hynudai and a company called Dongbu. Interesting stuff.

A few more today and then off to Tokyo on Thursday.
