I'm going to trade in my tablet PC for a Mac...

If you don't know squat about PCs, yeah get the idiot proof Mac.

Well tuned 4 gigs intel quad vista with $500 nvidia graphics card will blow the fuck out of any mac. No Mac user can ever challenge my system.

I know lots about PCs. But I'm tired and have better stuff to do now rather then continue to tinker around with them. When I was younger, I would build liquid cooled systems. Now, I'm old and tired.

And my dick is bigger then yours.

no porn=no problems
I've had the same desktop for five years and no crashes or ANYTHING

haven't had any issue with my HP Laptop either

you=geigh

I'm sorry you're about to make a poor decision.

I'll hit you with some red, maybe you'll snap out of it.

Yup and for the 25 minutes it stays up without crashing, it will kick ass.

Buy a PC if you love messing with PC's. It's like a guy who loves to fix his own car. He'll be out there every weekend underneath his car with a wrench working on something. You can't talk him out of it either -- he loves his craftsman tool set, his gojo hand cleaner and he's going to buy his own automotive diagnostic interface unit someday when he gets the cash.

If you just want to work and be productive, buy a mac and be done with it.

crashing?
WTF kind of programs are you guys running to have these issues
No crashes for me
although, I'm not Asian

I think most of the crashes come from my GF's computer randomly joining and dropping from our home network. She's got a Sony Vaio running Vista and I seriously doubt it's stayed-up for more than 3-5 hours at a time.

Her dad got it for her. So we keep it out only when he's coming by.

:P

Macs have the advantage that they absolutely control the hardware going into them and can test and develop their operating systems around that. No upgrading, period.

PS I'm running windows 7 pre-beta and its about as stable as you can get....in PRE BETA stage.

Running it on Raptor's in RAID 0 and 8gb of memory, dual core processor. The nice thing was that most of my drivers were integrated into the install. Only one I had to install was the built in wifi that my motherboard has.

Windows 7 will be a very solid OS.

Your attitude is postively toxic I really can't recall the last time you said something that was not negative.

Ender works in high tech so I am pretty sure he knows what he is doing. Dude make sure to install vmware fusion on it. I have yet to get an NFR for it hoping to once I finish all my Vmware training and butter up the VMware rep I hope to get one. I know a number of people with it and all the things I complain about with my MAC they don't as they use fusion. One thing I do love about the MAC lots of porn surfing and no viruses. LOL

The statement about absolute control of the hardware is absolutely true. There is no comparison between an OS tuned around a few specific hardware configurations versus and OS designed around thousands of configurations.

I remember back in the old days when you'd drop-in a faster processor or swap-out a motherboard. But does that happen that much anymore anyway? The next generation processor is going to need the latest motherboard to take advantage of it. I'm sure there are still a few system builders out there, but doesn't one upgrade typically trigger a cascade of necessary upgrades now?

If I need more RAM, I can add it to my Mac in under 1 minute. I've never added a hard drive, but I'm guessing that would take me 3-5 minutes. With today's hardware, doesn't an upgrade mean at least an all-new processor, motherboard, etc. etc.? Why not just give/sell the computer and buy a new box? Even when I used PC's, I stopped doing piecemeal upgrades around 1999/2000.

P.S. If you have a dual-processor PC, does it crash 2x faster or do the processors take turns crashing?

I have a Quad and they redistribute the wealth and support each other for the betterment of all. VOTE OBAMA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Dude the new core i7 motherboards have built in SAS controllers!

15k RPM drive with super fast access time. They are getting cheap anymore.

DDR3 memory is still too expensive IMO.

I picked up a Q9550 at Fry's black saturday ad - 229 with mobo.

Pretty sweet, havent installed it yet.

I didn't want to wait long enough for those to become affordable. USB 3.0 is also around the corner. I'm debating 42" versus 47" tv's next.

And not one of those processors can send me an Excel spreadsheet or a PowerPoint presentation!

Oh sure. You'll defend me from the RG attacks, but won't give me face pictures and nudie shots. :D

Yeah, I'm looking for Fusion now. I only want it for Visio and Websphere Designer. But I got a promotion and have people to do that for me now. ;)

So, I've had it for a few hours and it reminds me of Linux.

It's just Unix. Go to /Applications/Utilities and run "Terminal". You could run a Mac just fine completely from the command line.

Wha? OpenOffice reads/writes MS Office file formats w/o any problems. I email myself stuff work files from work all the time, even though I can use Terminal Server Client to connect to my work PC via RDP from home.

In my brief brush with StarOffice, you can read and write simple Word, Excel and PowerPoint presentations -- but anything complicated gets screwed-up. Complex PowerPoint charts don't translate well and word-wrapped boxes get reformatted so that square box that said:

Inventory Control
Largest Q3 Priority

turns into something like:

Inventory
Control
Largest
Q3
Priority

And don't even get me started with spreadsheets. Formulas and charts don't move across well at all.

Maybe it's changed, but at the time it was really terrible. I'm using MS 2008. Is that seamless with OpenOffice?
