or however it's spelled. i've had it for a year and it limits the kind of cardio i can do. I still walk, but hiking seems to make it worse. eliptical machine is fine, but that's only for when i go to the gym- i can't do that at home.

that's it. i'm just ranting. I probably need a cortisone shot.

my hubby went to a foot DR. and they made inserts for his shoes for him(covered by insurance) It took a year and a half before his went away.
It's also not good to go barefoot in the house. Make sure to wear a good house shoe.

You spelled it correctly.

Stilleto I'm so sorry, my sister in law has it and it sounds like such a miserable thing. I've never really heard of anything that helps it with alternative medicine either, the only answers seem to be really, really good shoes, tons of stretching, a good podiatrist and orthotics.

thanks ladies. I have some good shoes now- good sneakers, birkenstocks (i bought them for the arch support, not for how fugly they are), fitflops (GREAT arch support and so comfy!).
Insurance doesn't cover shoe inserts for me, but I have over the counter ones. They help a little- it's bearable, but i need to stretch more.

I just joined a new gym that has stretching classes (yay!). not many are at a good time for me, but i'm going to make sure I get there once in a while.

I am an Athletic therapist and inserts are good, just make sure you don't aggravate it too much else you can end up with a bony spur that will grow (calcification of the injury) and in really sever cases surgery is the way to go.
So I am afraid initially rest then try to source the cause of the problem.

Another good tip is to freeze a cup (one of those plastic or poly disposable cups you take on picnics) or a small bottle of water and when it is bad put the bottle or cup on its side on the floor and roll with the affected foot giving it an ice massage. Do for 10 minutes every hour.

ah, thank you! i'll give it a try.

I'm sure everybody has a remedy but I'll add mine. My husband has had it for a year. The ice in a cup works great and he also rolls his foot over a can at night while he is watching tv. Says it is the best thing he's tried. Also lots of stretching and bike and eliptical instead of running.

I've heard of the frozen water bottle trick before. My wife keeps golf balls in the freezer so she can roll her foot over the top of them in the evenings.

I don't know if I'm violating a rule by posting without introducing myself first but I just HAD to respond
I have had plantar fasciitis for three years
I have had inserts, frozen golf balls, physical therapy, more stretches than I care to think about, night splints, tons of anti-imflamatories...Ive even tried a crap load of homeopathic remedies, chiropractic manipulation and can tell you the ONLY thing that eventually helped me not suffer 24/7 has been being religious with morning stretches
scrunching a towel on the floor with my toes and my heel on the floor, then un-scrunching it and chacco sandals....with the last part being almost religious for me with the sandals
and have a physical therapist shoe you how to tape your feet...this made a big difference before I discovered the sandals (plus theyre nicer looking than birks :) )

thank you! it's still bothering me, every day. i have definately noticed that good arch support is important, but i know i should stretch more consistantly. thanks for the reminder.
