Well my brother is actually. But since i live him him, it's pretty much mine too.

It's a Dimension 8300
Pentium® 4 Processor at 2.60GHz
w/800MHz front side bus/ HT Technology

512MB DDR SDRAM at 400MHz

120 SATA Hard Drive (7200RPM)

I haven't got a new computer since my first year of university (2000).

I'm looking forward to not crashing and rebooting all the time.

YAY

when is the last time u checked prices? dell has some kick ass prices right now. they are top of the line IMO.

yeah this computer will cost about 1500 (Can) From what i've researched that is a pretty competitive price for this type of system.

build your own, that way you can ensure every part is to your specifications... o yah, it's cheaper too :D

with the model that i got, you can "costomize" it to your liking.

you also wouldn't have put cheap mexican made components in it if you built it yourself... My roommate's dell is a "screwless case" and all the pci cards "snap" in... needless to say, they are always coming unlodged and shit causing all kinds of tech issues... I have the damn thing open more than not.

HUH?? i haven't had any problems in the 10 months i've had mine. i have installed a tv tuner card and dvd-rom and shit's working good for me

In Hong Kong there are gigantic computer marketplaces in large multistory buildings. There are some very inexpensive stores selling cases, motherboards, memory, CPUs - everything you need for a complete system - and they will put it together and install all software for around 30USD extra. If you bargain they will do that for free. Some offer their own warranties and tech support.

I guess Dell/Gateway/whatever is good for the complete non-techie, so he/she doesn't need to think about computers at all. Sometimes geeks take for granted all of their knowledge and technological capabilities. Local stores such as those I described above would be even better.
