my screen enclosure that escaped during the hurricane... it was 25 feet high... same height as my rooftop... had a guy come out today to give me an estimate about replacing it... and the new law says screen enclosures can not be over 9 feet. WTF? This law was passed after H. Katrina. 9 feet will not conformed to the shape and size of my house and will look like a damn shed stuck on the side. I am pissed.

That's what I was thinking. Or possibly shop around for an unscrupulous contractor who will put it up without a permit. It's not like anyone is going to object, seeing as how it's always been a part of your house. The city will never know.

The old one was a part. But there is nothing left there. I could have said I was just "restoring" the existing one, but nothing at all is left. All I needed was one post. And not even that is left. So it is basically a new one all togehter.

Remember, the insurance is paying for this and will come back out to reappraise my house after it is finished to adjust my coverage amount.

GO sink a post or pour a bit of "pre"existing foundation

get a waiver for that rule man, they'll let you.

That law is gonna be challenging considering the number of people who have literally a house sized screen built over their pools / back patios. Sounds similar to the law they threw on the books a while ago about requiring a lockable enclosure aroudn a pool for kid-in-pool prevention.

I guess something I need to put on and get used to my comfy 9 foot ceiling now.
