I'm back - let's see if it lasts...

Yay, I am back on the board. Couldn't get my username to work for a bit there but I got logged in again!

It's been a long time since I was on this board it seems (~3 years?). Don't know who's still around. Don't know if the board is still a good one (sometimes they go to shit...).

Anyway, first workout in a looooong time today. Felt great surprisingly! Did some cardio for a bit to get my body used to working out again.

I will soon start the weights again.

Got fat and out of shape over the last 2.5 years since I my last "real" work out...sad as I was in wicked shape and strong as shit. Lots of work in front of me but I have different goals this time.

Had alot of fun eating stuff that I shouldn't have though! That's for sure!

Sooooo it's a few weeks of reminding my connective tissues, metabolism, and cardiovascular system what they are there for (not to mention my colon! I forgot how nice those "healthy dumps" were in the morning!). And working up to speed bursts and cardio, alternated with weights. I think I'm going to start with deep squats and just get that DOM stuff out of the way - light weight though of course.

Hope the world has been well to folks!

I'm hoping this "sticks" and it's not a false start for me.

welcome back--- i know a lot of peeps dont mention it, but jump roping for 20 minutes is a good way to make sure your core gets toned up and ready for the weight lifting,, without strain. keeps all major muscles tight and moving.
good luck on the trim down and keep us up to date on progress.

EGO!

Thanks Ego!

Regardless of how I proceed, I'm going to move at a low pace on cardio to accustom my body again. I've been pretty sedentary over the last couple of years and since I'm a bit older I have to watch myself for "overdoing it" right out of the gate.

I was on the elliptical yesterday and was looking at the free weights and saying to myself "I should go do some squats after this..." Meanwhile at a steady pace I look down and my heart rate is 189 for a guy in his mid-40's... Hmmm

Ramp up in order I think.

Two years ago I was in top shape and using the 5X5 I was freaking people in my gym out by how much I was lifting every other day. I had two guys spot me on a max lift and I could see them scoffing at me together. Then I did two clean presses of the weight and these guys just about shit themselves!

Jump rope is a good idea though. Never got into it, but I like the idea of hitting the core with it prior to working it hard in short bursts with weights! All those little muscles we never hear about getting exercised is smart!

My new gym sucks though compared to my old one... :(
