tell us why you do what you do. i'm sure many answers will be the same, but that's ok. speak up and be heard. i promise you won't regret it

i powerlift for strength. body and mind

dude your girl is giving me wood..you a lucky bastard..anyway im thinking more and more everyday why bother with bodybuilding..i like to train my lifts and by doing that plus someother assitance im still able to build thick muscle..

so for me i guess bottom line i like seeing my progress through my lifts!!

If I get down to the bare bones of my lifting philosophy, I'm just a guy who likes to lift heavy things. It's also very challenging and fun if your into masochism and self-punishment.

I lift therefore I am. Seriously though I love the way it feels. I love being bigger and stronger than most everyone I meet. I love the looks on peoples faces when I: Pull cars, carry stones, squat heavy ATF, throw big weight above my head, etc. I lift to be strong both physically and mentally, I lift to reduce stress in my life, I lift to vent anger, I lift very simply because I love it.

Cheers,
Scotsman

i've competed three times, bench only. I started lifting for looks, but i like improving my strength so i gave up the high rep garbage and concentrate on overall strength.
i want to be able to move furniture or hurt someone if i'm attacked. I want to bench more than the guy next to me and more than i did a year ago.
:)

Took up powerlifting in Apr 04 after 7 years of bodybuilding. Got to the Nat'l level and it just kept getting harder to gain more satisfaction from the competition, which is so objective...I had around the 7th year become so focused on what my appearance looked like that I just lifted without feeling the weight or even enjoying it - in fact, i hated it.

I am glad to have the ability as an athlete to try something new, and after the mental stuggles with all the body changes - I am now happy again in the gym and look forward to reaching new PR's with my lifts. Powerlifting is a great time if you enjoy lifting weight. Hell, it was the first time in 7 years at a competition that I got to eat pizza and a big candy bar to prepare for my lift!!! Now that's a great time! Take care all.

I did OL style lifting in college for track and field. After college, I wait trained off and on for years. I moved to Saudi Arabia in 1997. There was not much to do so I started to lift a lot. With all of the lifting, came some good strength. When I returned to the states, I found a really good training partner, who is now at Westside. He got me to compete. I am hooked.
