My avatar, thank you, is a woocut from a 16th Century German text on alchemy. The full figure is standing on a heart and is wearing, um, a skirt. He holds the caduceus, sacred to Hermes (the god who gives his name to one of the main developers of alchemy), and his radiant solar face represents intellectual knowing. It pains me that the heart is not evident because that is obvioulsy the point of the illustration -- joining of heart and mind, just as the odd androgynous clothing symbolizes the union of M & F, one of the main metaphors of alchemy.
